The aim of this thesis is to study some features of the Korean wooden movable type printing culture mainly in the Gyeongsangnam-do. The author analyzed subject, the year, the place, and the area of publication, and printers of 246 kinds of the wooden movable type printing books which were published in Gyeongsangnam-do. The result is as follows : 88% of the subjects of the wooden movable type printing books were complete works of each writers and genealogies ; 86% of the year of publication of the wooden movable type printing books were published 1891 to 1940 ; 80% of the place of publication of the wooden movable type printing books were worshiping halls for ancestors, pavilions, and private schools of Chosun Dynasty ; 81% of the area of publication of the wooden movable type printing books were along the riverside of the tributary streams of the Nakdong River ; 91 printers had printed wooden movable printing books in Gyeongsangnam-do.

가장 일찍부터 가장 후대까지 지식과 정보를 확산하기 위해 사용한 인쇄술이 목활 자 인쇄이다. 이 연구는 목활자 인쇄를 통해 전달하고자 했던 이념과 목활자본이 생 성된 시대적, 사회적, 문화적 배경, 생산의 주체 등 목활자 인쇄문화의 특성을 파악하 기 위해 경남에서 간행된 목활자본 246종을 대상으로 주제, 발행연도, 발행소, 발행지 역, 인쇄자 등을 분석하였다. 그 결과 경남에서 목활자본은 88%가 문집과 족보이고, 86%가 1890-1939년까지의 50년 동안에 발행되었으며, 80%가 재사와, 누정, 서원에서 발행되었고, 81%가 낙동강 의 지류인 황강, 남강, 밀양강 연안의 강안지역에서 발행되었고, 경남에서 활약한 인 쇄자는 23개 지역의 91명으로 조사되었다.
