The purpose of this study is to emphasize the importance of book-review journal issued by library. The library is the most important organizing entity for encouraging reading, and the librarians are one of the intellectual sources of the library. As an effective way of encouraging reading in a community, the libraries need to publish book-review journals by utilizing their librarians as book-reviewers. Book-reviews written by appropriate librarians as professional book-reviewers will ultimately contribute to enhancing the quality of the services that a library provides to a specific community, and at the same time will change the traditional image of the library and the role of the librarian. To be sure, the library-issued book-reviews should be more analytical and critical in it contents than other bibliographic tools, and should also take an approach in its format that are different from traditional ones.

도서관은 독서진흥의 주체이며, 사서는 도서관의 지적 자원이다. 독서진흥을 위한 방법의 하나로 도서관이 서평전문지를 발행해야 하며, 사서의 일부는 서평가로도 활 동해야 한다. 문헌에 관한 전문가로서 사서의 목소리는 서비스의 질을 높이고, 도서관 과 사서의 역할에 대한 기존의 인식을 바꿀 것이다. 도서관서평은 다른 서평매체와 비평의 형식에서 차별화가 되어야 하며, 기존의 도서관 서지도구와 달리 분석적이고 비판적이어야 한다.
