This is to study the reading discussion in the Gyeongyeon(經筵) between the Reign of Taejo(太祖) and Seajong(世宗) in Chosun Dynasty. Major findings are as the follows; The Gyeongyeon(經筵) was the agent of the king's reading discussion, to study the contents of Gyeongseo(經書) with civil minister 1. The Gyeongyeon(經筵) that was started in Goryeo Dynasty was developed in early Chosun Dynasty, but the king Taejo(太祖) and Jeongjong, Taejong(太宗) were not almost present at the reading discussion of the Gyeongyeon(經筵). 2. The king Seajong(世宗) have had several more of the reading discussion than pre-kings, and the number of times that he participated to the reading discussion was 1976. 3. The reading materials which they read at those day included the Daehagyeonyee(大學衍 義), Saseo(四書), historical books etc... , but the Daehagyeonyee(大學衍義) was the most read of all Gyeongseo(經書) by them.

經筵은 왕이 학문하는 장소이면서 문신들과 매일 책을 읽고 토론하는 자리이기도 하다. 조선을 건국한 태조는 고려시대부터 실시한 경연제도를 재정비하여 왕들의 경연의 기틀을 마련하였지만 왕에 따라 경연의 참여 및 독서토론 실시여부에 차이가 있다. 따라서 본 고에서는 조선 태조, 세종 연간의 경연에서의 독서토론에 대해서 고찰하면서, 경연의 시원과 조선시대 초기의 경연제도 및 왕 들의 독서토론 회수, 독서자료 등을 파악하여 그들의 독서행태를 밝혔다.
