The purpose of this study is to suggest the countermeasures and possibility to rank the top in world shipbuilding industry through comparing the global competitiveness of shipbuilding industry of Korea, China and Japan. According to TSI analysis for export competitiveness, Chinese export competitiveness was changed (-) in 1995 to (+) in 1996, it means that China has a comparative advantage. And the export competitiveness of Chinese shipbuilding industry is continuously increasing(0.58→0.91) from 2003. According to RSCA, the comparative advantage of Korea is high enough, Japan is downward, and Chinese RSCA index was switched from -1.00 to 0.49 since 2000. Moreover, RCP analysis shows increase (-0.0124→0.1587) and the portion of world economy is gradually increasing. Hirschman-Herfindahl Index analysis shows that Korea (0.1498), China (0.1587) and Japan (0.0919) depend on a special industry and also have a weak trade structure. Moreover, China specializes on shipbuilding industry based on lower labor cost through abundant labor.

본 연구는 실증분석을 통해 한ㆍ중ㆍ일 조선산업의 국제경쟁력을 비교하고 중국이 세계 1위 조선국 진입 가능성 및 대응책을 연구하였다. 수출경쟁력 분석을 위한 무역특화지수 분석에서 중국의 수출경쟁력은 1995년 이후 (-)에서 1996년 (+)로 바뀌어 비교우위를 가지며, 2003년 이래 지속적인 증가추이(0.58 → 0.91)를 보이고 있다. 대칭적 현시비교우위지수 분석에서 한국은 비교우위 정도가 높고, 일본은 하락세를 보이고 있는 반면 중국은 2000년 이후 정(+)으로 돌아서면서 비교열위에서 비교우위(-1.00 → 0.49)로 전환되었다. 그리고 상대적 경쟁지위 분석에서도 지속적인 증가세(-0.0124 → 0.1587)를 보이고 있는데, 이는 세계 무역에서의 비중이 점차 확대되고 있음을 의미한다. 허쉬만-허핀달 지수 분석에서 한국(0.1498), 중국(0.1587), 일본(0.0919)이 모두 특정산업에 대한 의존도가 크게 나타났으며, 무역구조가 취약한 것으로 분석되었다. 중국의 경우 풍부한 노동력을 바탕으로 한 저렴한 인건비의 비용우위를 통해 조선산업에 집중적으로 특화하는 모습을 보이고 있다.
