This study aims to identify the mediation effect of self-esteem and fear of negative evaluation on the relationships between child's rejection sensitivity and social inhibition. For achieving this purpose, questionnaires to measure child's rejection sensitivity, self-esteem and fear of negative evaluation were distributed to 386 fifth and sixth grade students in Gyeongsangnam-do(173 boy students and 213 girl students) to see the correlation between variables. The results were as follows: First, child's rejection sensitivity showed a significant correlation with self-esteem, fear of negative evaluation and social inhibition. Rejection sensitivity had a negative correlation with self-esteem, and had a positive correlation with fear of negative evaluation and social inhibition. Second, as mediation variables, Self-esteem had a negative correlation with social inhibition, whereas fear of negative evaluation had a positive correlation with social inhibition. Third, there was a significant mediation effect of self-esteem and fear of negative evaluation on the relationship between rejection sensitivity and social inhibition. Also, the indirect effect of rejection sensitivity on social inhibition through self-esteem and fear of negative evaluation was relatively bigger than its direct effect. In addition, rejection sensitivity influenced self-esteem, self-esteem had negative effect on negative evaluation, and there was a significant dual mediation effect of this on social inhibition. This results were compared with previous studies and the implication and limitation were discussed.

본 연구는 아동의 거부민감성과 사회적 억제의 관계에서 자아존중감과 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움이 매개하는지를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 경상남도 소재 5, 6학년 386명(남 173명, 여 213명)을 대상으로 아동의 거부민감성, 자아존중감, 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움, 사회적 억제를 측정하기 위한 질문지를 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아동의 거부민감성과 사회적 억제, 자아존중감, 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움은 유의미한 상관이 있었다. 거부민감성은 자아존중감과 부적 상관, 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움과 정적 상관, 사회적 억제와 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 매개변인인 자아존중감은 사회적 억제와 부적 상관을, 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움은 사회적 억제와 정적 상관을 나타내었다. 셋째, 거부민감성과 사회적 억제의 관계에서 자아존중감과 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움의 매개효과는 유의하였다. 또한 거부민감성이 사회적 억제에 미치는 직접효과보다는 자아존중감과 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움을 통한 간접효과가 상대적으로 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 거부민감성이 자아존중감에 영향을 주고, 자아존중감은 부정적 평가에 영향을 미치며, 이는 다시 사회적 억제에 영향을 주는 이중매개효과도 유의하였다. 마지막으로 연구결과를 기존의 연구결과와 비교하고 연구의 의미와 제한점을 논의하였다.
