The system and chaos theory attempts to understand the ecological system, which theoretically cannot be explained with numerical values or through analysis. The reason for using the system and chaos theory for researching eco fashion design in this study is because we wanted to deal with not only plastic features but also the attributes and values of eco design. As a result of this process, the researchers extracted plastic vocabulary by selecting vocabulary that was related to plastic features from explanations about the characteristics of the system and chaos theory. In this study, we newly introduced the viewpoint of system in our analysis and continuously applied it, taking into account that in previous studies form and technique-oriented eco design within the chaos framework had been prevalent. By applying the system framework and the chaos framework interchangeably throughout the study, we strived to maximize the objectivity of our analysis. Ultimately, this study pursued to carry out a more comprehensive research of eco design that takes into consideration its functional side as well. This new set of standards will be useful for researchers conducting studies that require a theoretical framework for case analysis.

본 연구의 목적은 에코패션디자인의 조형적 특성과 내적 가치의 도출을 위해 시스템･카오스 관점에서의 접근 방법의 시도를 함으로써 에코패션디자인의 본질적 연구를 위한 이론적 틀을 제시하고자 하는데 있다. 연구의 방법으로는 먼저 이론적 고찰로서 에코패션디자인과 시스템･카오스 이론의 특성과 가치에 대해 살펴보고, 시스템･카오스 이론의 특성에서 조형언어를 도출한 뒤, 에코패션디자인의 가치에 조형언어를 적용시켜 에코패션디자인의 조형적 특성과 미적가치를 고찰하였다. 시스템의 특성에서는 안정성, 규칙성, 변화성, 진화성, 구성성, 상대성, 통일성, 구조성, 기능성, 카오스의 특성에서는 연속성, 비선형성, 스케일링, 회전성, 반사성, 비규칙성, 비정형성, 스트레칭, 접힘, 왜곡, 중첩, 반복, 곡선, 무작위성의 조형 언어를 도출하였다. 시스템･카오스의 조형언어를 에코패션디자인의 가치에 적용한 결과 에코디자인의 가치 중 기능의 효율성, 형태의 내구성, 재활용성, 건강지향성은 시스템 특성의 조형언어로, 자연성과 토속성은 카오스 특성의 조형언어로 그 특성을 요약할 수 있었다.
