The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of citizen patrol activities to citizen patrol corps activation, and to suggest the methods for activating citizen patrol corps. This study conducts the survey on 84 citizen patrolmen for voluntary crime prevention. By factor analysis, citizen patrol management by police department, intimate relations and cooperations between citizens and citizen patrolmen, support and compensation for citizen patrolmen, and community policing are grouped as the dependent variables. And the independent variable is citizen patrol corps activation. The results of this study reveal that citizen patrol corps activation is affected statistically by relations and cooperations between citizens and citizen patrolmen, community policing, and citizen patrol management by police department. Therefore, police department must make the effort for enhancing the relations and cooperations between citizens and citizen patrolmen, enforcing community policing positively, and strengthening the citizen patrol management. First, to enhance the intimate relations and cooperations between citizens and citizen patrolmen, police department should divide the citizen patrol corps smaller, make the citizen patrolmen participate in regional festivals, and activate community meetings. Second, to enforce community policing positively, police department should identify what citizens desire, response proactively, and provide the tailored service. Third, to strengthen the citizen patrol management, police department should offer the citizen patrol corps various conveniences, make citizen patrolmen wear the uniform, and unify the management style.

이 연구의 목적은 자율방범대의 활동실태를 살펴보고, 자율방범대활동의 핵심요소들 중에서 어떤 요소가 자율방범대 활성화에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는지를 분석한 후, 그 분 석 결과에 기초하여 자율방범대를 활성화시킬 수 있는 방안들을 제안하는 것이다. 이 연구의 조사대상자는 대전지방경찰청 관할 내에서 활동하고 있는 자율방범대원 84명을 대 상으로 하였고, 독립변수로는 경찰의 자율방범대 관리, 주민과의 친밀한 관계 및 협조, 자율방 범대 지원 및 보상, 지역사회 경찰활동의 4개 변수가 선정되었고, 종속변수는 자율방범대 활 성화이다. 회귀분석의 결과, 유의수준 0.05에서 종속변수인 자율방범대 활성화에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 독립변수는 주민간의 관계 및 협조, 지역사회 경찰활동, 경찰의 자율방범대 관 리인 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 자율방범대를 활성화시키기 위해서는, 주민과의 친밀한 관계 및 협조를 증진시키고, 지역사회 경찰활동을 적극적으로 실시하며, 경찰의 자율방범대 관리를 강화할 필요가 있다.
