This study is designed to explore the poetic documentary from the dimensions of ocularisation and auricularisation. is Seung-Jun Yi’s feature documentary about the daily life and love of a deaf, blind man. This documentary's characteristic features are (1) a poetic essay structure and content, (2) the director as a cineaste filming the documentary so as to maintain coherent aesthetic values, (3) message passing scheme that expands the sensory dimension, and (4) barrier-free narration and subtitles that facilitates useful analysis. The theme of the film is that the protagonist comes from a ‘planet of snails’, where people communicate through touch. But "what is 'seeing and hearing"? This study analyses subjective and objective perspectives of looking at the intersection to configure the director's gaze and 'Soggetiva libera indiretta'. Also it explores the barrier-free film's narration and sound, especially auricularisation. This allows discussion of other sensory systems that can substitute for sight and sound of the film and thus offers the potential for expansion of other sensory systems.

본 연구는 시적 다큐멘터리로서 <달팽이의 별>의 시각화와 청각화에 대한 분석이다. <달팽이의 별>은 최근 약진하고 있는 우리나라 다큐멘터리 중 국내외적으로 호평 받은 영화로서 어떠한 측면에서 특징이 있는지를 살펴보았다. 첫 번째 시적인 에세이와 같은 구성과 내용이라는 점, 두 번째 시네아스트가 직접 촬영함으로써 미학적인 일관성을 유지한다는 점, 세 번째 메시지 전달의 방식이 감각의 차원으로 확장된다는 점, 네 번째 배리어프리 버전 형식으로 내레이션과 자막을 활용한다는 점이었다. 시청각 중복장애인이 주인공인 이 영화는 우리에게 영화를 ‘보고 듣는다’는 것에 대한 근본적인 질문을 던진다. 이에 대해 본 연구는 객관적 시점과 주관적 시점이 교차하는 시네아스트의 시선 구성을 분석하였고, 자유간접화법에 의한 쇼트 구성이 일관성을 유지한다는 것을 살펴보았다. 또한 배리어프리 영화에서 내레이션과 사운드가 구현하는 심상에 대한 시각의 청각화에 대해서도 분석하였다. 이를 통해 시각과 청각이 아닌 다른 감각으로 영화읽기가 확장될 수 있는 가능성이 있음을 논의하였다.
