Korean churches face both internal and external challenges. A current decline of church growth and criticisms from within and without about shamanistic materialism, immorality of leaders, and a lack of social consciousness show internal challenges. In addition, a demographic change and increasing diversity in Korea challenge Christian educators to ponder how to minister to immigrants from diverse cultural, racial, religious and socio-economic contexts and to build up the next generations in general to be perfect in Christ. In this article, it is argued that fostering a faithful congregation (a faith community), which is shaped by the Word of God and biblical narratives, whose culture embodies its faith, identity, and values of the kingdom of God, and which provides, therefore, an alternative society to the world, should be one of the responses of Christian educators in the multi-cultural and pluralistic society. For that purpose, this article explains why a faith community matters by drawing insights from Cha, DeYmaz and Dawn. Then, it offers implications to foster a faithful congregation which is shaped by the Word of God, whose culture shows consistency between its implicit theology and explicit theology, and whose identity is formed by biblical narratives.

본고는 다문화, 다원화 되어가는 한국 사회에서 기독교교육의 회복을 도모할 다양 한 방법과 단계들 중 하나를, 하나님의 말씀에 의해 빚어지고, 그 말씀을 삶으로 구 체화하여 보여주는 신앙공동체의 문화 형성이라고 주장한다. 이를 위해, 연구자는 먼저 왜 신앙공동체이어야 하는지에 대해 논하며, 둘째로, 신앙공동체와 회중문화 를 강조한 피터 차(Peter Cha), 마크 디메즈(Mark DeYmaz), 그리고 말바 돈 (Marva J. Dawn), 이 세 학자의 연구를 소개하면서, 다문화 사회에서의 기독교교 육에대한시사점을제안한다. 마지막으로는신앙공동체와그문화가다문화, 다원 화 되어가는 사회 속에서 성도들을 온전케 하는 기독교교육의 본질적 역할을 감당 할 수 있도록 신앙공동체의 문화를 이해하고 분석하는 도구들을 제시하고, 이주민 으로서의정체성에대한성경적내러티브를고찰해본다.
