Education is basically a teaching-learning process. Therefore, to ensure effective teaching and learning, teachers should not only try to communicate the content of their teaching effectively, but they should also try to ensure that their students are learning through their teaching practices. Learning-oriented Education, a learning-centered approach to education, is based on the belief that both the teaching and the learning processes are essential in education; however, educators who support this idea claim that the focus of education should be more on the learning process. This does not mean that educators need only minor changes in their teaching through adopting a new program or new teaching methodology. Instead, it means educators must renew their views on education, adopting learning-provoking teaching methods such as the 4MAT and the Interactive Engagement methods, and using learning-oriented assessments in order to ensure holistic and long-lasting learning for the learners. There are several characteristics of Learning-oriented Education: (1) it embraces a holistic understanding of learning; (2) it is learner-centered; (3) it promotes interactive engagement teaching methods; and (4) it values coconstruction of knowledge through group activities. Since these values are not only educationally sound but also biblical, adopting learning-oriented thinking in Christian education can revitalize the teaching ministry of the church.

교육은 기본적으로 가르치고 배우는 과정(Teaching-Learning Process)이다. 따 라서효과적인교육이이루어지려면 가르치는이인교사가가르치는내용을적합한 방법을사용하여 배우는이에게 전달해야 할뿐아니라, 이런가르침의 과정이실제 로 배움을 일으키는 것이 되도록 도와야 한다. 교육에 관한 배움중심적인 접근법, 즉 배움중심의 교육이란 바로 이런 전제하에서, 교육의 포커스를 교사의 가르치는 행위에 두기보다는 배움에 두어야 한다는 생각이다. 이는 단순히 어떤 새로운 프로 그램이나 교육방법의 도입을 의미하는 것이 아니라, 교육을 바라보는 관점은 물론 이고 교육방법과 평가의 방법등 교육과 관련된 모든 영역을 배움중심적인 것으로 전환하여 총체적이고 지속적인 배움을 이끌어 내려고 하는 노력이다. 교육에 관한 배움중심적인 접근은 배움을 총체적인 것으로 보고, 학습자중심적이며, 상호적이 고 참여적인 교수방법의 사용을 권장하고, 공동체를 통한 지식의 공동구성을 지향 한다는 특징이 있다. 배움중심의 교육에 담겨져 있는 이런 가치들은 교육학적으로 건전할 뿐 아니라 성경의 교육원리를 반영하고 있기 때문에 교회교육을 새롭게 하는좋은도구 가될수있을것이다.
