After all, the truth is one in the wide variety of the tea culture; it is the fusion of the metaphysical value that tea has and the physical utility. Only when the two become inter-complementary, playing their unique roles, the true value through tea can be obtained. The book "『Dasinjeon(茶神傳)』" by Cho-ui(草衣, 1786-1865) contains all the real aspects of our tea and tea culture covering the inner and outer tea life ranging from the general growth condition of a tea tree, a specific method of manufacturing tea, how to choose and control water and fire, a specific way of making and having tea to the essence of the right tea ceremony. The awareness of ‘deity-energy(神氣)’ by Cho-ui(草衣) leads to ‘Tea Deity(茶神)’, apex of tea culture. When one penetrates energy that is a physical method of making tea by means of sincerity and reaches metaphysical deity, the inter-harmony(相和) between deity and energy can be obtained. This is Cho-ui's(草衣) foundation of the governing awareness of tea. It is the representation of tea deity which Cho-ui(草衣) intended to spread that with the fundamental of tea, the boundaries of energy and deity, subject and object, and metaphysical and physical break down to be united into one.

차문화 제반의 다양함 속에서 결국 진리는 하나이다. 차가 지니고 있는 형이상적 가치와 형이하적 효용의 융합이다. 양자가 상호보완적관계가 되어 그 각각의 고유한 역할들이 어 우러질 때 비로소 차를 통한 참된 가치를 얻을 수 있기 때문이다. 초의(草衣,1786-1865)의 􋺷다신전(茶神傳)􋺸은 차나무의 일반적인 생장조건에서 구체 적인 제다(製茶)방법, 물과 불의 선택 및 조절 법, 차를 끓이고 마시는 세세한 방법, 올바른 다도(茶道)의 요체에 이르기까지 차생활의 안과 밖을 아우른 우리 차와 차 문화의 진면목 이 모두 담겨 있다. 초의가 말하는 ‘신기(神氣)’의식은 차와 차인에 내재되어 있는 정신 본질이 서로 만나 도달한 최고 경계의 결정체(結晶體)라 할 수 있는 ‘다신(茶神)’을 갖추게 한다. 차를 만드는 물리적 방법인 형이하자의 ‘기(氣)’를 성(誠)으로서 꿰뚫어 형이상자의 ‘신(神)’에 두루 미칠 때 신과 기 기와 신이 상화(相和)할 수 있다. 이것이 초의의 통섭적 차의식의 바탕이다. 차 라는 본질을 가지고 신과 기, 주관과 객관, 형이상과 형이하자의 경계가 허물어져 하나로 통하는 것이야말로 초의가 전하고자 했던 다신이며, 아울러 신기를 바탕으로 한 정신적 최 고의 경지라 할 수 있는 신명(神明)의 단계에 다다르게 되는 것이다.
