We confront the crises of environment, feminine, and multi-culture. Traditional mainstream ethics(Aristotelian ethics, Kantian ethics and utilitarian ethics etc) confront the three significant challenges posed by environmentalism, feminism, and multiculturalism. While traditional mainstream ethics has been quite successful at dealing with the problems it faces, it has not addressed the possibility that its solutions to these problems are biased in favor of humans, men, and Western culture. I examine each of these challenges. In the case of environmentalism, I argue that traditional mainstream ethics must incorporate conflict resolution principles that favor nonhumans over humans in a significant range of cases. In terms of feminism, I maintain that traditional mainstream ethics should rule out gendered family structures and implement an ideal of androgyny. In regard to multiculturalism, I contend that traditional ethics must endorse an ethics that is secular in character and that can survive an extensive comparative evaluation of both Western and non-Western moral ideals and cultures. Environmentalism, feminism, and multiculturalism as three challenges to traditional mainstream ethics is as accessible as it is challenging, framing not only the right questions but profound solutions with respect to the vexed sociopolitical and economic relationships plaguing contemporary life. These are the essential solutions for anyone concerned with issues of justice and sustainability. I brings marginalized and mainstream ethical traditions into constructive engagement with each other. Feminism provides an admirably clear and accessible exposition of several challenges posed to traditional mainstream ethics by feminist thinking. Environmental ethics unsettles established ethical convictions is seminal, and few ethicists are more resolute in forging better principles to meet this challenge-a synthesis of anthropocentric and biocentric concerns. Ethics is peacemaking, and I embody this claim full force in my placing of nature in culture, and of people on their Earth. An important breakthrough that benefits beginners as well as those who welcome a lucid breath of fresh air in ethics texts. The blend of theory and factual content in the critical study of the relationship between traditional ethical theory and current concerns about ethical and social issues involving the environment, feminism, and the commitment to multiculturalism makes for a provocative and challenging contribution to applied ethics.

우리 사회는 지금 환경의 위기, 여성의 위기, 다문화의 위기라는 3대 위기에 직면해 있다. 그동 안 주류의 윤리가 나름대로 당면한 윤리적 이슈에 성공적으로 대처하기도 하였지만, 근대 이후의 새로이 제기된 환경 문제, 여성 문제, 다문화 문제를 해결하는데 있어서는 기성의 윤리 담론으로서 는 해결력을 잘 보여주지 못하고 있다. 그것은 곧 인간 중심, 남성 중심, 그리고 백인 중심의 문화 를 선호하고 있기 때문이다. 즉, 주류의 윤리는 자연의 목소리, 여성의 목소리, 소수자의 목소리를 담아내지 못하는 어떤 편향성을 보였다. 이에 대한 새로운 대안적 윤리로 생태주의, 여성주의, 다 문화주의가 제창되고 있다. 지구환경의 위기에서 발생한 생태주의 윤리, 남성 중심의 폭력성에서 발생한 여성주의 윤리, 선진국과 백인 중심의 문화제국주의 문제로부터 발생한 다문화주의는 기존 의 처방으로는 해결할 수 없는 새로운 윤리적 처방으로 등장하였다. 기존의 주류 윤리가 부분적 처방책을 제시해 주고 있지만, 전면적 처방을 제시하고 있는 것은 아니다. 그러하기에 생태주의, 여성주의, 다문화주의 윤리는 기존의 주류 윤리가 놓치고 있는 허점이나 약점을 발견하고 치유하 는 새로운 처방임에는 틀림없다.
