The new era needs a new leadership paradigm. Church leadership was focused on the traits or personality of the leaders in the past. The leaders’ personal traits or styles were the critical element to understand church growth. However, it is time to shift the paradigm for church growth. Kouzes and Posner supply a good frame for a new leadership paradigm. The purpose of this study is to review the leadership practices and investigate the relationship between leadership practices and church growth based on Kouzes and Posner’s frame. They address that five leadership practices, including challenging the process, inspiring a shared vision, enabling others to act, modeling the way, and encouraging the heart are critical elements for the effective organization. These five leadership practices are also very important elements in church leadership development and church growth. In this study, the researcher suggested five practical implications for church growth based on Kouzes and Posner’s theory.

새 시대는 새로운 리더십의 패러다임이 필요하다. 전통적으로 교회 성장은 리더십의 핵 심 요소들에 대한 구체적인 실천 보다는 주로 리더의 개인적 성향이나 능력에 의해 좌우 되었다. 그러나 이러한 전통적 패러다임은 교회 성장을 위해 재고 및 보완되어야 한다. Kouzes and Posner는 새로운 리더십 패러다임 형성을 위한 적절한 틀을 제공해 준다. 본 연구의 목적은 리더십 실천과 교회 성장에 대한 상관성을 문헌 연구를 통해 살펴보는 것이다. Kouzes and Posner는 리더십 실천과 관련하여 1) 변화와 과정에의 도전, 2) 비 전 나누기, 3) 다른 사람으로 하여금 일하게 하기, 4) 본보이기, 5) 격려하기와 같은 다섯 가지 핵심 원리를 제시한다. 그리고 이런 원리들은 조직의 성장에 결정적 역할을 한다고 본다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 다섯 가지 리더십 실천 관련 핵심 원리가 교회 성장과 관련 한 중요한 요소임을 주장하였고 교회 성장을 위해 그것들을 교회 사역에 적극적으로 실 천할것을제안하였다.
