This paper studied on the category of the confrontation legend between Yiseonggye(李成桂) and the Jurchen(女眞) before division of territory and it's pattern recognition as . The time background of the confrontation legend between Yiseonggye and the Jurchen is started from ancestor and is ended as the victory over the Jurchen in Yiseonggye's lifetime. This the confrontation legend between Yiseonggye and the Jurchen is composed by mythical motives seen typically in ⋅. In that the victory over the Jurchen is ended in the theory justifing Yiseonggye's foundation, it seems that the confrontation legend between Yiseonggye and the Jurchen has the characteristics that gets to be the legend. It based on the historical context that Yiseonggye group grew up through the political⋅military hegemony fight with the Jurchen in the tradithional residence and could found the Chosun Dynasty on this base. The mythical recognition system inhered in the confrontation legend between Yiseonggye and the Jurchen can be organized as two point. The first is the secure of the public justification. The second is the mythical raditionalization of founding the Chosun dynasty.

본 연구는 분단 이전 시기에 북한 지역에서 채록된 이성계⋅여진족 대결담을 대상으로 하였다. 이성계⋅여진족 대결담의 하위 유형을 이성계 조상⋅여진족 대결담과 이성계⋅여진족 대결담으로 나누어서, 해당 텍스트의 전 개 양상을 구체적으로 분석하였다. 이성계⋅여진족 대결담은 이성계 조상 대에서부터 시작되어 이성계 당대에 서 비로소 마무리 되며, 여진족에 대한 대결 승리로 완결되는 전개 양상을 보여준다. 이러한 이성계⋅여진족 대결담은 <주몽신화>나 <왕건신화> 속에서 전형적으로 등장하는 신화소들을 다양하 게 동원하고 있는 바, 여진족과의 궁극적인 대결 승리가 이성계의 조선 창업을 정당화 하는 논리로 귀결되고 있다는 점에서 일종의 <이성계 신화>의 전설화 된 텍스트로서의 성격을 띄고 있다고 보았다. 이처럼 <이성계 신화>의 설화화 된 텍스트가 하필이면 여진족을 그 대결의 대상으로 하여 대결담의 형태로 형상화 되어 있는 가 하는 문제에 대해서는 이성계 집단이 한반도 동북방의 전통적인 여진족 거주 지역에서 여진족과의 정치적 ⋅군사적 헤게모니 다툼 속에서 성장하였으며, 이를 기반으로 조선 창업의 기반을 확보할 수 있었던 역사적 맥 락을 통해 설명할 수 있었다. <이성계 신화>의 설화적 정착 형태로서의 이성계⋅여진족 대결담에 내재된 향유층의 신화적 인식 체계는 두 가지 관점으로 정리하였다. 첫 번째는 이성계 조선 건국의 대외적인 정당성 확보이고, 두 번째는 조선 건국의 신화적 합리화이다. 이상과 같은 작업을 통해 북한 지역 전승 이성계⋅여진족 대결담의 유형을 분류하고 이성계 신화로서의 북한 지역민의 인식체계를 분석할 수 있었다.
