This study aims to find out the need for multicultural education in the multucultural society utilizing visual image contents. The statistics show that Korea has been experiencing the rapid change into the multicultural society. This change speed has been unparalleled in the world history. In Korea, the interest in the multicultural education is steadily growing and a lot of studies on developing the program of multicultural education have been conducted. Nevertheless, there are only a few studies which have worked on the mutlicultural education program for the secondary school students using visual image contents. That is, there is no multicultural education program for the university students. For this reason, we researchers, above all, decided to propose the need for developing mutlicultural education program for the university (college) students utilizing visual image contents. Through this study, we hope that our proposal will lead to a series of researches which concentrate on the development of practical multicultural education programs. To justify the need for multicultural education utilizing visual image contents we carried out a survey targeting university students. The result of the survey showed that more than 91% of respondents recognized the need for mutlicultural education which should take advantage of visual image contents. In addition, most students surveyed had a strong preference for lectures delivered by instructors. Accordingly, multicultural education programs which instructors or experts lead by means of visual image contents should be developed. As a result, the Multicultural Education In about 91% of the respondents that the survey is a visual content requires the study were very positive.

본 연구는 영상콘텐츠를 활용한 교육방법이 다문화교육에 효과적이라는 것을 염두에두고 현재다문화 교육을 하고 있는 대학생을 상태로 실태를 연구하고자 하였다. 연구의필요성은 우리나라가 다문화사회로 급속히 진행됨에 따라 함께 다문화 교육을 실하고는있지만 효과 면에서는 기대하는 수준에 이르지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 최근에 영상콘텐츠를 활용한 다문화 교육이 효과성이 높다는 연구결과들이 나오고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 현재 대학생을 상대로 다문화 교육을 하고 있는 현장에서 영상콘텐츠를 활용한 다문화 교육의 실태조사를 조사하여 교육의 효과성의 기대를 높여 다가오는 다문화 사회에기여할 수 있게 하는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 영상콘텐츠를 활용한 학습방법으로 교육주체, 교육내용으로 나누고 각각의 교육내용을 이해 및 인식하는지를 조사하였다. 또한 영상콘텐츠를 어떻게 활용하여 교육에 적용하는 것이 가장필요한지를 알아보기 위하여 현장에서 직접 경험하고 있는 교수자와 함께 전문가의 특성을 동시에 연구하였다. 그 결과, 다문화 교육에 있어서는 응답자의 약 91%가 영상콘텐츠가 필요하다고 조사되어 매우 긍정적인 연구결과를 얻었다.
