The current paper reports a solution regarding the utilization of an instructional and learning material and an improvement in the social studies curriculum through the economy class in elementary schools utilizing children’s story. The social studies curriculum is concerned with humans, society, and the complexity of life which is realized within them. Also children’s story is considered as another method with which students can approach the complexity of life that they experience. This study is not to insist that children’s story itself should be used or replaced as a textbook for the social studies class. However the utilization of children’s story in the social studies class is a sort of artwork which enables learners to learn the relationship among people who share characteristic issues and backgrounds or thoughts. Since the role of literature or children’s story can be an important means of helping learners to improve an understanding of life as well as aesthetic sensibility, the possibility of utilizing either of them as an instructional and learning material for the social studies class is proposed. Accordingly this study proposes a class which utilizes children’s story as an instructional and learning material for the economy class which has been neglected in the area of value exploration owing to the objective characteristics of background studies in the contents of social studies class. Through this the study composed a class practice process through which learners explores social values which may be omitted in the textbook although those social values are proposed in the curriculum during the class practice process.

이 연구는 초등학교 경제 수업을 위한 교수·학습 자료로서 동화 활용 방안을 제안하고 있다. 사회과는 인간과 사회 그 안에서 이루어지는 삶의 복잡성에 관한 교과이다. 그리고 동화는 학습자로 하여금 삶에 대한 이해와 심미적 감수성을 향상 시킬 수 있는 중요한 수단이 될 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 사회과 교수·학습 자료로서 동화 활용 방안을 제안하기 위해 교육과정을 분석하고 수업 실천과정의 점검을 통해 동화를 교수·학습과정의 보완 자료로 선정하고 적용할 수 있는 수업 실천 방안을 구성하였다. 본 연구를 통해 제안하는 동화 활용 방안 및 동화 선택의 준거는 첫째, 수업에 활용되는 동화의 질이다. 둘째, 사회과 교수·학습 자료는 학습자의 흥미와 관심을 끌어들일 수 있어야 한다. 셋째, 교육과정과의 적합성이다. 이상과 같은 동화 선택준거를 기초로 경제 수업을 위한 동화 활용 방안을 제시하고 있다. 특히 사회과 내용영역 중 경제 수업은 다양한 사례를 활용할 수 있는 부분임에도 불구하고 교과서속 사례와 접근방식의 한계로 인해 개념과 내용 중심의 이론적인 수업이 일반화되어 있는 현실을 감안한다면 동화활용을 통한 사회과 수업의 제안은 사회과에서의 경제교육의 장을 넓혀줄 수 있는 하나의 계기가 될 것으로 여겨진다.
