This paper examines the orientation of interpretations of ‘images of temporality and movement’ from the perspective of the subjective interpretation of the images, focusing on the ‘third meaning’ (Le troisième sens) Roland Barthes asserted in his later years. This is the study of audience interpretation of media art images placed in a process of unpredictable time, and the work of discussing how such interpretation will unfold. The recent theory on audience would not interpret any image as seeing it as an image itself, regarding its semantic dimension useless. This paper expands its discussion to the theory of linguistic intermediation and how language has to intermediate between creator and audience through an interpretative, critical role.

이 논문은 바르트(Roland Barthes)의 후기 사상에서 드러났던 제3의 의미(Le troisième sens)를 중심으로 한 이미지에 대한 주관주의적 해석(Interprétation subjective)이라는 관점을 통해서 미디어아트에 드러나는 시간 성과 움직임의 이미지들에 대한 해석의 방향을 검토한다. 그것은 예측할 수 없는 시간의 과정 속에 투여 되는 미디어아트 이미지에 대한 수용자의 주관적 해석과 더불어 후속적으로 작동되는 해석의 지평이 어떻 게 전개될 수 있는가를 따져 묻는 작업이 된다. 아울러 그것은 이미지를 이미지 자체로 보고 언어로 번안 하지 않으려고 하는 최근의 수용자론과 의미론의 차원에서 무용론의 단계에 이른 언어의 해석적, 비평적 역할이 어떠한 방식으로 창작자와 수용자 사이를 중재해야만 하는지에 대한 언어의 매개론으로 논의를 확 장한다.
