In 19th and 20th century, it is noticeable that both physicists and mathematicians have tried to introduce theirs methodology to the biology, especially physiology. In particular, by exploring the phenomena at the molecular levels using the quantum mechanics, the role of physics and mathematics is strengthened in biology. The thoughts and concepts of physicists and mathematicians also have smeared into biology. Therefore, it might be said that both the physicalism and the reductionism prevail in the general sciences including biology even in these days. Throughout the processes, these ideas or concepts may enter into the controversies surrounding the concept of consilience proposed by Wilson. The purpose of this study is to shed new light on how the ideas of concepts in physics and mathematics have been transferred to biology, and how the 'biologism' could come to the fore historically. It can be called 'biologism' to try to make all the disciplines biological. Furthermore, the idea of the 'biologism' has been formed with help of the seamless matrix of causation in the discussion of the Consilience, for this 'biologism' we can identify the internalized thinking habits which have been spreaded out from physics and mathematics. Then we would have the critical examination for the thinking habits which is internalized the 'biologism'

19세기와 20세기에 이룩된 생물학, 특히 생리학분야에 이론적 방법을 도입하기 위해 물리학과 수학으로 무장한 학자들의 역할이 매우 두드러졌다. 특히 양자역학을 통해서 분자수준의 현상을 탐구할 수 있게 되면서 물리학과 수학은 생물학의 영역으로 더욱 깊숙이 나아갔는데, 많은 물리학자와 수학자들은 생물학에 관심을 가지면서 자신의 사상적 경향도 자연스럽게 생물학에 도입시켰다. 물리주의와 환원주의는 오늘날에 이르러서도 생물학을 포함한 대부분의 과학영역에서 강력한 힘을 발휘한다는 사실은 어쩌면 당연해 보인다. 물리주의와 환원주의적 경향은 이러한 역사적인 근거를 통해서 윌슨의 통섭 논의 속으로 들어올 수 있었던 것이다. 본 논의에서는 물리학과 수학의 이념이 어떻게 생물학으로 전달되었으며, 모든 학문을 생물학화하려는 태도인 ‘생물학주의’가 어떻게 대두하게 되었는지를 역사적으로 재조명 하고 있다. 나아가 지금까지의 통섭 논의는 이음매 없는 인과관계의 이념을 통해서 형성된 ‘생물학주의’가 물리학과 수학에서 가져온 사고의 습관을 내면화하려는 것임을 지적한 후, 이를 비판적으로 검토하고 있다.
