The concept of fold related to philosophical speculation is a paradigm that is generally discussed in art and design. This study is aimed at looking into Deleuze’s fundamental speculation system on fold design, and to find out the formative characteristics of the folds that are expressed in modern fashion design. By studying the formative value of folds that can be shown in modern fashion design, we consider the various and creative future directions of the modern fashion design industry. By studying the form and content of fold expressions based on the philosophical concept of Deleuze, this paper classifies the internal meanings of folds in modern fashion design in terms of art theory and Deleuze’s concept of fold design into diversity with differences, mutual relation with boundary extinction, and decentralization with refusal of the fundamental concept. The formative characteristics of fold design in modern fashion design are classified into three-dimensionality of differences, continuity with space expansion, liquidity with changes, and creative potentiality. The fold speculation of Deleuze gives form to fold speculation through clothes and has the potential of lending various forms and space senses. Therefore, the speculation suggests the possibility of expanding the boundary of design by establishing a new formative space of design.

철학사유와 연동된 주름 개념은 예술과 디자인 전반에서 논의되는 하나의 패러다임이다. 본 연구의 목 적은 들뢰즈의 근원적인 주름디자인 사유 체계의 탐구를 통해 현대패션디자인에 표현된 주름의 조형적 특 성을 살펴보고 현대 패션디자인에 의해 표현될 수 있는 주름의 조형적 가치를 통해 점차 다각적으로 표현 되는 현대패션디자인의 다양한 창의적 전개 방향을 고찰하는 데 있다. 들뢰즈의 철학적 개념으로 주름표현 의 형식과 내용을 탐구함으로써 보다 구체적인 예술이론인 들뢰즈의 주름디자인의 의미에 입각한 현대패 션디자인에 나타난 주름의 내적의미를 차이에 의한 다양성, 경계소멸에 의한 상호관계성, 본질개념의 부정 에 의한 탈 중심성으로 분류하였다. 현대패션에 표현된 주름디자인의 조형적 특성은 차이의 입체성, 연속 성, 유동성, 잠재성으로 분류하였다. 들뢰즈의 주름사유는 복식공간에 적용됨으로써 주름사유를 형태화하 여 다양한 형태와 공간감을 부여하는 잠재력을 가지고 새로운 복식조형 공간 구축을 통해서 디자인 영역 확대의 가능성을 제시하고 있다.
