The purpose of this study was to investigate actual work conditions of preschool teachers and their job satisfactions. The subjects were 280 teachers of public and private preschools located in Seoul, Gyunggi, Dagu, and Daejeon. The survey was used to explore the teachers’ work conditions and job satisfactions. The survey consisted of 45 items: 4 items for general background information of the teachers, 11 items for actual work conditions, and 30 items for job satisfactions. The response rate was 96%. Chi-square test, t test, and ANOVA including Scheffé analysis were utilized to analyze the collected data. The results showed that actual work conditions such as appropriateness of child-teacher ratio, average of daily working hours, additional work, and harmony of working environments were significantly different according to the teachers’ general background variables. Also, the majority of the teachers showed a moderate level of job satisfactions, and their job satisfactions differed significantly according to professionalism, salary, promotion and director domains. The study provides fundamental data to improve the teachers’ abilities of job implementation by understanding their actual work conditions and job satisfactions.

본 연구의 목적은 유치원교사의 직무 실태 및 만족도를 조사하는 것이었다. 연구대상은 서울·경기, 대구광역시, 대전광역시에 소재한 사립 및 국·공립 유치원들에 근무하는 280명의 교사들이었다. 이들의 직무 실태 및 만족도를 알아보기 위해 설문지가 활용되었다. 설문지는 모두 45문항들로 이루어졌다: 교사의 일반적 배경 관련 4문항, 직무 실태 관련 11문항, 그리고 직무 만족도 관련 30문항. 설문지 회수율은 96%였고 수집된 자료는 SPSS 통계프로그램을 활용하여 χ2––검증(Chi-square test), t-검증, 그리고 ANOVA분석을 하였고 추후분석으로 Scheffé 사용하였다. 연구결과, 직무 실태와 관련한 담당 학급의 유아 대 교사 비율의 적절성, 하루 평균 근무시간, 추가 근무의 실시 여부, 그리고 유치원 근무환경의 원활함은 교사의 배경변인들에 따라 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 또한 전체 연구대상자들의 직무 만족도는 5평정에서 3.6점으로 보통정도를 나타냈고 직무 만족도의 영역인 전문성, 보수, 승진, 그리고 원장과의 관계는 교사의 배경변인들에 따라 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 본 연구를 통해 유치원 교사들의 현재 직무 실태와 만족도를 이해함으로써 그들의 직무 수행 능력을 높일 수 있는 방안을 마련하는 데 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.
