The purpose of this study was to discover teaching-learning methods for young children’s development of emotional intelligence and nature-friendly attitudes. This objective was met by analyzing the emotional intelligence and nature-friendly attitudes of the group of children after creating continual gardening experiences in the fields near the daycare centers. The subjects were 30 five-year-old children. The experimental group participated in gardening activities promoting nature-experience, while the comparative group participated only in walking activities. The following sources were used as research tools: Lee, Bung-Lae’s emotional intelligence test(1997) and So, Kyeong-Hee’s a nature-friendly attitude test(2007). The results were as follows: Gardening activities promoting nature-experience effected not only the total points of children’s emotional intelligence, but also their recognition of self-emotion, control of self-emotion, recognition of others’ emotional state, and control of others’ emotions. Moreover, gardening activities promoting nature-experience effected the total points of children’s nature-friendly attitudes and their interest and affection for animals and plants, they had a preference for the natural environment, and protection of nature.

본 연구는 가까운 주변의 자연을 지속적으로 경험할 수 있는 자연체험에 기초한 원예 활동이 유아의 정서 지능 및 자연 친화적 태도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 비교, 분석하여 그 효과를 검증 해 봄으로써 실제 유아교육 현장에서 유아의 정서지능과 자연친화적 태도 발달을 위한 교육적 방향과 교수학습방법을 모색하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 만 5세 유아 30명을 대상으로 실험집단에는 자연체험에 기초한 원예활동을 실시하고 비교집단에는 산책활동을 실시한 뒤 정서지능검사(이병래, 1997)와 자연친화적 태도 검사(소경희, 2007)를 실시하였다. 연구결과 자연체험에 기초한 원예활동이 유아의 정서지능 전체 점수와 하위영역인 자기정서인식, 자기정서조절, 타인정서인식, 타인정서조절에서 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자연체험에 기초한 원예활동이 유아의 자연친화적 태도 전체 점수와 하위영역인 동물·식물에 대한 관심과 애호, 자연환경에 대한 선호, 자연보호에서 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.
