The Hanguel generation who are educated under the policy only for using Hanguel have become the majority in these days and there should be so many changes in the buddhist community. One of the most important issue is translating Sutra and rituals into Hanguel. The monk Bak yong-sung already insisted the same kind of issue for the purpose of popularization of buddhism a hundred years ago and the purpose of that issue is clearly elucidated in the prospectus of Institute of Maha Bodhi Thought. In this paper, I will examine important things to translate the text of ritual into Hanguel and especially for the ‘Gyecheong’ of ｢Cheonsugyong｣ which is very important in the buddhist ritual. The contents of ‘Cheonsugyong’ transformed into a ceremonial offering to Buddha is applied to ‘Gyecheong’ in 「Eucheonsu」and 〈Gwiuirye〉is supplemented to ‘Gyecheong’. ‘Gyecheong’ has the same meaning as ‘Jucheong’ and has four parts of composition. so we have to understand the every meaning of its parts accurately and have to establish rules for translation. (1) The text of ‘Gyecheong’ has a meaning of acclaiming the virtue of Buddha who grants my wish, so it is translated in the style of ‘praise’. (2) The text of ‘Shibwon’ and ‘yukhyang’ have a meaning of the content of wish, so it is translated in the style of ‘petition’. (3) ‘Gwiuirye’ has a meaning of endless faith, so it is translated in the style of ‘devotion to Buddha’. I have established those three rules of translation in this paper. Especially ‘Gwiuirye’ is the core part of this paper. It is absolutely certain that ‘Gwiuirye’ was formed in Korean peninsula. It focused on the devotion to Avalokiteshvara and maintained the basic form of ‘Four Saint in the utmost bliss’. These statements from the different viewpoint are big accomplishments in this paper and We can assume the magnitude of the power of dharma from the Thousand Hand Dharani which can be achieved by meeting all the conditions of Gyecheong. Translation of the text of rituals into Hanguel is the needs of the times so the buddhist community should meet the demand but keep in mind that The Maha Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra translated by Hyunjang is popular in chinese cultural area.

정부의 한글전용정책으로 금세기의 주역들은 한글세대로 바뀌었고 불교계에도 변화가 불가피했으니 경전이나 의식문의 한글화가 화두로 급부상한 것이 그것이다. 그러나 이 같은 일은 ‘대각사상연구원 설립취지문’에서도 분명히 했듯 백용성 스님께서 불교 대중화를 위해 한 세기 전에 이미 주장하신 바다. 본고에서는 장차 의식문의 한글화에 있어서 어떤 점에 유의해야 할지, 한국불교의식에서 불가결의 위치를 점하고 있는 의식용 『천수경』(이하 ‘의천수’)의 ‘啓請’을 대상으로 살펴보고자 했다. 의천수의 ‘계청’은 불공 역 『천수경』의 해당내용을 의식에 원용하면서 ｢歸依禮｣ 부분을 증광․보충한 것이라는 것이 본고의 입장이다. ‘계청’은 ‘奏請’과 같은 말로서 의천수의 ‘계청’은 <계청문> 등 네 개의 항목으로 구성되어 있으며, 이는 주청의 典範이기도하다. 따라서 이를 번역함에 있어서는 계청이라는 주제 하에 이를 구성하고 있는 각항의 성격을 파악하는 한편, 다음과 같은 원칙을 세워 한글화 작업에 임해야 한다. ⑴ <啓請文>은 소원을 들어줄 상대의 德을 칭송하는 것이니 讚歎形으로, ⑵ <十願文>과 <六向文>은 성취코자 하는 내용을 아뢰는 것이니 請願形으로, ⑶ <歸依禮>는 끝없는 信心을 나타내는 것이니 歸依形으로 번역해야 한다. 이번 논문에서 ‘계청’을 번역함에 있어서 이상에서와 같이 세 가지 원칙을 세우고 시도했다. 특히 ｢귀의례｣에 관한 내용은 본 논문의 핵심을 이루는 부분이다. 이 부분은 한반도에서 구성된 것으로서, 귀의의 초점을 소례이신 관세음보살께 맞추면서도 전체적으로는 極樂四聖이라는 四聖禮의 기본 형식을 유지하고 있음은 매우 기발하다. 이 부분을 지금까지와는 다른 시각에서 바라보고 번역하게 된 것이 이번 논문에서의 성과다. 그리고 ‘계청’의 구성 요건인 4개 항을 원만히 갖춤으로써 얻을 수 있는 것이 大悲呪인 만큼 그 功能의 정도를 짐작함에도 도움이 되었다. 의식문의 한글화는 시대적 요청이며 교계는 이에 부응해야 한다. 그러나 玄奘 譯 『般若心經』이 한문문화권에서 가감 없이 통용되고 있음을 상기하면서 번역에 임하는 자세를 가다듬어야 할 것이다.
