A Comparative Analysis on Anger in Korea and Japan : Cultural Distinctiveness and Political Economic Reality This article delves into the differences of Koreans and Japanese in their anger and their anger expressions by comparing the two people’s cultural features and political economic variables. The western centered cultural analyses identify Korea and Japan as having a similar cultural pattern, despite some differences. Thus, Korean and Japanese could be expected to have a similar way of feeling and expressing anger. Researches are confirming, however, that the two people differ, that the Japanese control their anger and refrain from expressing anger to others or society whereas the Koreans are relatively more sensitive to anger and express it directly. The two may seem to share a same cultural pattern, but there were quite some number of differences in the behavioral patterns and organizational patterns. Different historical and political experiences and incidents further enlarged the existing gaps. The difference of the severity in anger between Koreans and Japanese, moreover, seems to be the effects of the different political economic environment that they are situated in.
