This study has the purpose to restore the historic events in the sports world and the process of subjectivation as a sportsman in his(her) life of each period by the sportsmen’s voices; also, this is for recognizing the historic meaning in the life of sportsman father and son in the modern times. If I consider their homogeneous lifetime just as the past though a period of one person living is somewhat different in its viewpoint because the historic backgrounds are different, I can’t obtain any results in the individual historic records through this study. Because the Judo experience of the father in the Japanese colonial era and the civic life in the generation of his son are universal beyond the period and the place and the past can become the realtime event. This study discuss the positions of the father living his life continuously by Judo as a Judo staff in the tumultuous period and the son carrying out his role also as a Judo staff. In other words, in the history, if the son can rightly carry on the meaningful roles and activities of his father, this can be recorded in the athletic and sports history though he will be called as an other name than his father in his lifetime.

이 연구는 체육계를 구성하는 역사적 사건과 시대별 생활 속에서 체육인이 주체화되 는 과정을 유도인 아버지와 아들의 목소리를 통해 복원하고자했다. 이는 근현대시기, 체육인 父子의 삶에 나타난 역사적 의미를 인식하기 위한 것이다. 한 사람이 살아온 시대를 역사적 배경을 달리해 그 관점이 다소 대비된다 할지라도 동질적인 父子의 생애과정을 과거의 것으로 돌린다면 이 연구를 통해 말하고자하는 개인 사적 기록에서 그 어떤 것도 얻을 수 없을 것이다. 이는 일제강점기 아버지로부터 시작된 柔道 활동과 그 아들 조민중의 삶이 시대와 장소를 넘어 보편적인 면이 있기에 그렇고, 지난 과거의 일도 현실이 될 수 있기 때문이다. 본 연구는 격동의 시절, 유도인으로 살아가고자 끊임없이 유도를 통해 삶을 구현해 내고자 했던 아버지와 그에 못지않은 유도인으로서 역할을 해내고자하는 아들의 입장을 내세운다. 즉 역사 속에서 아들이 아버지의 의미 있는 역할과 활동을 올바로 계승할 수 있다면 한 남자로서, 비록 그 생애에 주어지는 각기 다른 이름으로 불린다 할지라도 체육·스포츠史로 기록될 수 있기 때문이다.
