Invention is the activity requiring very high thinking power and concrete handling ability. So, invention education should be begun from elementary school with more systematic systems for cultivating the future men of talent who have the harmony and the balance between mind and body. We need to find how much and form the contents related to the invention are included in elementary school textbooks The aim of this study is to analyze the contents related to the invention in elementary school textbooks, and then grasp problems, present plans for improvement for those problems. For this aims, we analyzed 34 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade Practical Arts, Science, Social Study, and Fine Arts textbooks in elementary school. The content items of invention education, inventions, persons related to the invention, and occupations related to the invention were established as the analysis criteria, and we made the analysis framework for the contents related to the invention with those. Contents analysis was applied as a analysis method. We presented the results of quantitative data analysis and the analysis results by data forms. We could find the following conclusions through this study. First, much contents related to the invention were included in Practical Arts and Science textbooks, so the invention education in the regular curriculum is need to be systematized based in Practical Arts, and Science. Second, much more inventions ordinary persons can approach more easily should be presented in textbooks. And textbooks should include not only historical figures, but also ordinary commoners who made a great contribution to the invention area. Third, so little occupations related to the invention were presented in textbooks. So, many different kinds of occupation related to the invention are to be presented. Fourth, so many invention-related contents were presented as the text and visuals. So, much more reading materials and inquiry activities should be included in textbooks to stimulate high interest and curiosity to the students about the invention.

발명은 고도의 사고력과 구체적 조작 능력을 요구하는 활동이고, 발명교육은 심신의 조화와 균형을 갖는 미래인재 양성을 위하여 보다 체계화된 시스템을 가지고 초등학교 때부터 시작되어야 한다. 발명교육의 체계화를 위하여 초등학교 교과서에 발명 관련 내용이 얼마나 어떤 형태로 실려 있는지 파악할 필요가 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 초등학교 교과서에 포함되어 있는 발명 관련 내용을 분석하고, 문 제점을 파악하여 그에 대한 개선 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 초등학교 4, 5, 6학년 실과, 과학, 사회, 미술 교과서 34권을 분석하였다. 발명교육내용요소, 발명품, 발 명 관련 인물, 발명 관련 직업을 분석 준거로 설정하였고, 이를 이용하여 발명 관련 내 용 교과서 분석 틀을 구안하였다. 분석 방법으로는 내용 분석법을 이용하였고, 분석 결 과로 양적 분석과 자료 형태별 분석 결과를 제시하였다. 이 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 발명 관련 내용은 실과와 과학교과서에 많은 양이 포함되어 있어서 실과와 과 학 교과를 중심으로 하는 정규 교과 발명 교육을 체계화하는 것이 필요하다. 둘째, 일반인들이 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 발명품이 좀 더 많이 제시되어야 하고, 역사적 인물뿐만 아니라 발명에 공헌을 많이 한 일반인들도 발명 관련 인물로 제시되어야 할 것이다. 셋째, 발명 관련 직업이 매우 적게 제시되어 있었다. 진로 교육 차원에서 발명과 관 련된 다양한 종류의 직업을 제시하는 것이 필요하다. 넷째, 발명 관련 내용은 본문과 시각자료의 형태로 제시되어 있는 것이 가장 많았다. 학습자의 발명에 대한 흥미와 호기심을 자극할 수 있도록 좀 더 많은 읽기자료와 탐구 활동이 교과서에 제시될 필요가 있다.
