Hip-hop dance, born in the ghetto in the US, has developed into subculture deeply colored in the spirit of resistance and freedom against the ruling class. Due to its birth background, hip-hop dance has been subjected to a misconstruction that it leads the youth into misdeed. However, the news on successive winnings of Korean B-boys has been publically known through mass media, which has removed the wrong idea of hip-hop dance and made it become another goal of life for the youth to grow their dreams and passion, and even resulted in the establishment of new lectures and departments in some universities. The study suggests the educational value of hip-hop dance by researching the cases of dance education on juvenile delinquents which demonstrate the fact that it might lead the youth into not wrongdoing but the right path by preventing them from committing a misdeed. The results imply that hip-hop dance education on juvenile delinquents promotes self-consciousness or community formation by attachment and involvement cultivates emotion, prevents social maladjustment, leads wrongdoers into the right path and has the positive effect on passion, a sense of purpose and improvement of creativity. Hip-hop dance as a dance education might prevent the youth from committing the misdeed, lead them into the right path and have the value as a professional art education to improve artistry and creativity.

힙합 춤은 미국의 게토지역에서 태동한 춤으로 지배계층에 대한 저항과 자유정신이 짙게 묻어 있는 하위문화로 발전해 왔다. 탄생배경으로 인해 힙합 춤은 청소년을 비행으로 이끈다는 오해를 받기도 하였다. 그러나 한국 비 보이의 잇따른 세계대회우승소식이 미디어와 매체를 통해 알려지면서 불량한 오해를 벗고 젊은이들의 꿈과 열정 을 키울 수 있는 또 다른 삶의 목표로까지 이르게 되었으며, 고등학교와 대학교에 수업 및 학과가 신설되기도 하 였다. 이처럼 힙합 춤이 청소년을 비행으로 이끄는 것이 아니라 비행을 예방하고 선도를 할 수 있다는 점을 비행 청소년 무용교육사례를 통해 힙합 춤의 교육적 가치를 연구하였다. 비행청소년에게 힙합 춤을 교육함으로써 애착 과 몰두로 인한 존재 자각이나 공동체 형성, 정서적 함양을 통해 사회적 부적응을 예방하고 비행을 선도할 수 있 으며, 열정과 목적의식 및 창의력 향상에 효과가 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이와 같이 힙합 춤도 무용교육으로서 비행을 예방하고 선도할 수 있으며 예술성과 창의력을 향상할 수 있는 전문예술교육으로도 가치가 있다는 것을 알 수 있다.
