There is an inseparable relationship between culture and religion. Especially in ancient times, as population increased and cities grew, religion also developed prosperously over time. This is a universal phenomenon regardless of regions and ethnic groups.
The purpose of this paper is to study the religious meanings of Gyeongju area in the Ancient Korean Peninsula. In the whole history of the Korean religion, the Christian religion has a history of 200 years only. The Chinese Christian has a history of 1300 years over and the Japanese has of more than 400 years. This paper pursues the matter why the Korean Christian has the shortest history in Northeast Asia. In ancient times, is Korean Peninsula one of the world's most isolated region with discontinuities on geopolitical perspective? On the other hand, Korean Christian community has the distinctively unique history. In the latter half years of the 18th century, the Korean laity began to worship as Christians from the books before missionaries came to propagate their faith.
The approach of this paper is to consider the possibility of the trace of Ancient Korean Christian from all sides and to try presenting the evidence carefully. On the basis of these efforts, this paper aims to study and explore the religious meanings of Gyeongju area in the Ancient Korean Peninsula.
