The purpose of this study was to examine college students’ preferred news types in relations to the report on sexual violences. The method applied here was Q methodology known as a useful tool to explore the subjectivity structures of news recipients. The results of analyses showed 2 types of subjectivity structures. The first type, named as a ‘fact-oriented’ preference, was composed of students who want to seek for objective informations on the case. Especially, they preferred the detail report on the current status. The second types, named as a ‘revelation-oriented’ preference was composed of students who want to seek for sensational stories related with the case. They preferred the in-depth report dealing with the behind scenes. The first type of students had an opinion that journals have to establish their desirable role in providing objective informations related to the sexual violence case. On the other hand, the second type of students had an opinion that journals have to establish their desirable role in searching the truth hidden under the surface, while avoiding a victim blaming approach in dealing with the female victim. In sum, news recipients could be divided into 2 groups; people preferring the objective information and people preferring the tabloid journalism. It would be argued that the former is more similar to the traditional recipient, while the later to the revolutionary recipient who would be an easy target of mass-media in recent years.

본 연구는 대학생들이 선호하는 성폭력 관련 뉴스유형을 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 수용 자의 주관성을 탐색하는데 유용한 Q방법론을 원용하였다. 본 연구가 얻은 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생의 성폭력 관련 뉴스의 선호 유형은 2개로 나타났다. 제1유 형(사실보도 지향)은 객관적 정보를 추구하는 사람들로 구성되었다. 이들은 객관적인 사실을 제시하거나 현황을 보고한 기사를 선호하였다. 제2유형(폭로보도 지향)은 심층 적인 보도, 특히 폭로 지향적 기사를 선호하는 사람들로 구성되었다. 둘째, 제1유형은 언론이 성폭력과 관련하여 정보제공자의 역할을 수행하는 것이 바람직하다고 평가하였 다. 제2유형은 언론이 성폭력 사건과 관련하여 사건 이면에 숨겨져 있는 사건의 진실을 심층적으로 밝히는데 초점을 두어야 할 것과 피해자(여성)를 비난하는 보수적인 보도행 태에서 벗어나야 할 것임을 강조하였다. 요약하면, 성폭력 보도와 관련하여 수용자는 객관성을 지향하는 전통적인 수용자집단과 최근 언론이 타깃으로 하는 타블로이드 저 널리즘의 수용자 집단으로 이원화되어 있다고 할 수 있다. 특히 제2유형은 최근 언론이 겨냥하고 있는 전형적인 수용자 집단이라고 하겠다.
