W. B. Yeats is a perfectionist poet: no poet, as far as I know, has ever as steadily reworked his poems as he does; as he works on them, the poems grow more perfect than before. This paper discusses not only his form but also his substance in poetry. To compare Yeats with Ashbery, I focus on Ashbery’s poem “Illustration” and then on Yeats’s poem “The Municipal Gallery Revisited.” I study the enjambment in both poems to take note of the differences in Modern and contemporary poetry.

W. B. 예이츠는 완벽주의 시인이다: 내가 알기로는 어느 누구도 그처럼 꾸준히 작품을 수정한 시인은 없다. 또한, 그가 작품을 만질수록, 시들이 전보다 더 완벽해진다. 본 논문은 시 형식만을 다루는 것이 아니라 시의 내용을 어떻게 다듬었는 지도 검토한다. 저자는 예이츠와 애쉬버리를 비교하기 위해서 애쉬버리의 “삽화”와 예 이츠의 “시립미술관을 다시 찾다”을 다룬다. 현대와 당대의 시의 차이점을 찾기 위해 두 시의 앙장브망을 연구한다.
