The purpose of this study was to review the research methods and the focus of studies conducted in early childhood education and care settings with young children. This study analyzed research articles published in seven leading peer-reviewed journals of early childhood education and care areas in Korea from 2010 to 2011. During the two years, 1,192 articles were published in the journal, and 462 studies used young children aged 0-5 years as the target population for research. For the 462 studies, quantitative research method was the dominant methodology for the studies, and ‘program’ and ‘development’ were their main themes.

본 연구는 한국의 유아교육현장에서 이루어지는 연구들의 연구대상, 연구방법, 연구목적 등을 분석함으로써 현재 우리나라 유아교육의 연구동향을 파악하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 한국에서 발간되는 유아교육관련 학술지 7곳에 2010년과 2011년 사이 출판된 논문의 영문초록 내용을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 7개의 학술지에 2년간 총 1192개의 논문이 발간되었으며, 그 중 462개의 연구가 만 5세 이하의 유아를 대상으로 이루어졌고, 76%의 연구가 양적방법을 사용하여 이루어졌으며, ‘프로그램’과 ‘발달’이 주된 연구주제인 것으로 밝혀졌다.
