The purpose of this study was to identify ordinary and inventively gifted children's image toward invention. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, analyze 33 adjective pairs through Semantic Differential Method as quantitative analysis and pictures which student drew after thinking about the invention as qualitative analysis. The contents of the examination were made on 228 ordinary students and 145 inventively gifted students in "K" Metropolitancity. The survey contents were composed of 33 adjective paris that were used in choi (2006)'s study. The results of this study are as follows. First, ordinary and inventively gifted children generally acknowledged invention positively. The survey showed that the total average point of students was 5.08 which is higher point than 4 point that is middle value Secondly, from the results of image analysis of 33 adjective pairs toward invention, inventively gifted children showed more positive values than ordinary students in 27 adjective pairs (the considerable level was set at 0.05, 0.01 and 0.001). In other words, the students who have invention education regularly considered invention positively. The result of analysis which was related to drawing, showed that ordinary students drew light bulbs, experimental instruments, robots, anguish, imagination and working tools in order, and inventively gifted students drew lights bulbs, imagination, anguish, working tools, robots, and experimental instruments in order. Though two groups drew light bulbs most, ordinary students drew the things that they saw in their life and inventively gifted students drew imagination, anguish which is related to the basic capabilities to produce ideas. The major findings of this study will help to make invention education of elementary school students more efficient.

이 연구는 초등학교 일반학생과 발명영재반 학생들이 발명에 대해 어떠한 이미지를 가지고 있는지 알아보기 위해 수행하였다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 정량적 분석방법인 의미분별법을 사용해 발명에 대한 이미지를 분석하였고, 정성적 분석을 위하여 발명에 대해 떠오르는 이미지를 그림으로 그리게 한 후 발명에 대한 이미지를 분석하였다. 조사대상은 K광역시 소재 4∼6학년 일반학생 228명 및 발명영재학급 소속 학생 145명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 조사도구로는 최유현(2006)의 연구에서 사용된 형용사군 33개의 문항으로 구성된 설문지를 사용하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생 전체가 가지고 있는 발명에 대한 이미지는 평균점 4점 보다 높은 5.08점으로 나타났고, 이를 토대로 발명에 대해 긍정적인 생각을 갖고 있음을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 일반학생과 발명영재반 학생의 발명에 대한 이미지를 분석한 결과 ‘불행한 -행복한’, ‘어려운-쉬운’, ‘맛없는-맛좋은’, ‘긴장한-여유로운’, ‘느린-빠른’, 및 ‘더러운-깔끔한’ 항목을 제외한 27개 항목에서 모두 유의수순 p<.05 에서 유의한 차이를 나타냈다. 즉, 정기적으로 발명교육을 받은 학생들이 일반학생들에 비하여 발명에 대하여 더 긍정적으로 여기고 있었음을 알 수 있었다. 그림 분석결과 일반학생은 전구, 실험기구, 로봇, 고민, 상상, 공작도구 순으로 그렸으며, 발명영재반 학생은 전구, 상상, 고민, 공작도구, 로봇, 실험기구 순으로 나타났다. 두 집단 모두 아이디어를 가장 우선시 하고 있었지만, 일반학생은 로봇 및 실험기구 등 실생활에서 자주 볼 수 있는 발명품을 그렸음에 비해, 발명영재반 학생은 상상, 고민 등 아이디어 산출을 위한 기초능력에 관심을 가지고 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과는 초등학생들을 대상으로 하는 발명교육활동이 좀 더 효율적으로 이루어지는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
