The purpose of this study is to analyze the reality of the operation of research groups of curricula education (RGCE) and to find ways to promote their activities. To achieve the goals, elementary school teachers' profession and the performances of RGCE were analyzed. In addition to this, the drawbacks which each stage of government agencies-schools, local education board, education board of each cities, ministry of education-have concerning RGCE's furtherance were investigated. The findings were as followings. First of all, government agencies are not performing their part in the domain of administrative and financial support. The next, the cooperation system between RGCE and external professional research institutes is not established yet. The third, a comprehensive system that can help RGCE exchange their research products is not formulated. Lastly, the experiences of professional human resources who have their specialties in curriculum education are not being utilized in current system. On the bases of these investigation, a few suggestions for the facilitation of RGCE were presented in this article.

본 연구는 초등 교과교육연구회의 운영 실태 및 문제점을 분석하고, 교과교육연구회의 운영을 활성화 할 수 있는 방안을 마련하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 분석을 위해 단위학교 차원, 지역교육청 차원, 시·도교육청 및 교육인적자원부 차원으로 논의를 세분화하였으며, 교과교육연구회 운영의 활성화와 관련하여 각 기관들이 안고 있는 문제점을 검토하였다. 분석 결과, 현재 교과교육연구회 운영의 공통적 문제점으로 1) 관련 기관의 행·재정적 지원이 부족하다는 점, 2) 관심사를 같이 하는 외부 전문연구기관들과의 협력 체계가 미흡하다는 점, 3) 연구 결과와 교수·학습 관련 정보를 교류하기 위한 광역 지원체제가 체계적이지 못하다는 점, 4) 교과교육 전문성을 갖춘 우수한 연구회 회원들을 적극적으로 활용하지 못하고 있다는 점 등이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 문제점 분석을 토대로 교과교육연구회의 운영을 활성화 할 수 있는 방안들을 논의하였다.
