The purpose of this study was to explore alternative approach of 'interclass integration' to incorporate a P.E. curriculum with curriculums of other subjects from a standpoint of consilience in pursuit of interclass exchange without infringing on the unique domain of P.E. This is based on a discipline-centered curriculum integration among different curriculum integration types, and is in line with contributed integration, one of structural integration types, and with interdisciplinary integration, one of academic integration methods. This attempt is not a summed integration but to integrate different subjects to construct a new curriculum to let learners gain integrated and epistemological experience. They should serve as teachers as curriculum makers who are competent enough to select and organize a curriculum in consideration of the level and interest of students instead of merely conveying knowledge in accordance with the given curriculum, and they should serve as teachers as curriculum practitioners who help students to internalize what they have learned in class at the same time. In this sense, it seems that an integration of P.E. curriculum from a perspective of consilience is a very significant and new attempt as a methodology to embody the value of physical activities and actualize a true integration and as one of possible integration-based approaches to knowledge creation.

창의인재육성을 강조하는 수월성 교육측면에서 다양한 교육적 아이디어가 제시되고 있는 가운데 환원주의적 지식탐구방식에 의한 패착을 해결하기 위하여 ‘통합적 체육교육’이 주목받고 있으나 교육현장의 실천적 난점이 상존하는 바, 이에 대안적 방법으로 통섭(consilience)적 관점에서 체육과 교육과정을 통합하는 방식을 탐색하였다. 이는 기존 ‘통합적 체육교육’이 교과 내 통합에 머물러 있을 뿐 아니라 다학문적 통합에 의하여 과목 간 학습내용이 분절적으로 통합되는 방식에 의해 운영되었던 것에 대한 대안적 방법으로 교과 간 통합을 바탕으로 신체적 활동 시간을 확보하여 체육교과 고유영역은 유지하되 교과 간 소통을 전제로 하는 통합 방식이다. 이는 학문중심 교육과정 통합에 근거한 기여적 통합, 간학문적 통합 방식에 의한 접근방법으로, 물리적인 합산적 통합이 아니라 교과 간 교육과정 내용을 통섭적으로 통합함으로써 학습자들로 하여금 인식론적인 통합적 경험을 할 수 있도록 돕는 것이다. 이에 따라 교사는 교육과정을 선정ㆍ조직하여 가르칠 수 있는 안목을 갖춘 ‘교육과정 개발자로서 교사’이자 ‘교육과정 실천가로서 교사’의 역할이 동시에 요구되며 이를 통해 체육교육이 지향하는 신체활동의 가치와 진정한 의미로서의 통합을 실현하는 방법론적 측면과 통합을 통한 새로운 지식창출이라는 가능성의 접근적 측면에서 매우 의미 있고 새로운 시도라 판단된다.
