The purpose of the present study is to examine the causal relationships between self-control, internet expectancy, internet addiction and cyber delinquency among middle school students and to make discussions and draw out implications in terms of preventing cyber delinquency. A convenient sampling was taken of middle school students in G Metropolitan City. A total of 498 questionnaires were used in the statistical analyses. A proposed structural model to middle school students’ cyber delinquency has also been identified to have a structural explanation for the relationships among the aforementioned variables. Upon estimation using the SEM procedure, this study yielded a good fit given the sample data with χ2=109.550, df=48, p=0.000, GFI=0.96, AGFI=0.94 NNFI(TLI)=0.96, RMSEA=0.05. The results of the study are as follows. First, this study identified a number of causal relationships between the variables mentioned above. Second, there is a causal link between self-control and cyber delinquency mediated by internet addiction. Third, there is a causal link internet expectancy and cyber delinquency mediated by internet addiction. Finally, theoretical and practical implications were also discussed.

본 연구의 목적은 중학생의 자기통제력, 인터넷 기대감, 인터넷 중독, 사이버 비행 사이의 인과관계를 검증하고 중학생의 사이버 비행을 설명하는 최적의 모형을 탐색함으로써 사이버 비행의 예방 및 감소를 위한 이론적ㆍ실천적 함의를 도출하는 데 있다. 조사대상자는 G광역시의 중학생이며, 총 498부의 설문지를 대상으로 구조방정식 모형 검증 등을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 최적 연구모형의 적합도 지수가 χ2=109.550, df=48, 유의확률 p=0.000이었으며, GFI=0.96, AGFI=0.94, NNFI(TLI)=0.96으로 모두 1에 근접하였고, RMSEA=0.05로 나타나 이 구조회귀모형이 적합하다는 사실을 확인하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자기통제력은 인터넷 중독에 유의한 음의 영향을 미치고 있다. 둘째, 인터넷 기대감은 인터넷 중독에 유의한 양의 영향을 미치고 있다. 셋째, 자기통제력은 사이버 비행에 유의한 음의 영향을 미치고 있다. 넷째, 인터넷 중독은 사이버 비행에 유의한 양의 영향을 미치고 있다. 다섯째, 인터넷 중독은 자기통제력과 사이버 비행 간의 관계를 매개하고 있다. 여섯째, 인터넷 중독은 인터넷 기대감과 사이버 비행 간의 관계를 매개하고 있다. 끝으로, 이와 같은 분석결과를 바탕으로 중학생의 사이버 비행 문제에 대처하기 위한 이론적ㆍ실천적 함의를 논의하였다.
