This study is purposed on the community festival and promoting dance performances based on Andong International Mask Dance festival and Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival. Andong International Mask Dance was selected as representative of the Korean festival and Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival was selected as the best festival of Korean Festival by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Thease were held successfully with the theme of Dance performance and dance competition over the years. And also contributed to promoting dance performances. Dance performances and dance competitions have been developed over the years in community festival. There are some limits in this paper which descrived only about Andong International Mask Dance Festival and Cheonan World Dance Festival. And it is suggested some points of opinion for the promoting dance performances in the community festival for the future. It is needed to corporate dance experts and city publicians for developing and promoting the dance performances. They need to participate to make plan and administrate each other before held the festival. Some of audiences need to participate as a judge to evaluate even though at least portion in dance copmpetition to make fairness and sharing with audiences. Not only dance performances for dance experts but also dance performances for audiences in the future. It needs to leading festival for feeling dance and dancing delightfully all together with audiences. And they also support audiences to transportation conviniences to visit the communities where held festival. Hopefully many dancers and choreographers can have a performance with more audiences interested in dance through these community festival. It is preferable to have a discussion with artists and audiences after the performance. Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival particularly contributed to dance promotion as a community festival, started from Cheonan Heungtaryeong Festival, but now it is named dance additionally. Finally, all dancers and choreographers need to corporate and make efforts for promoting dance performances to keep on helding succesfully dance fesstival which has been held succesfully in Andong and Cheonan city so far and they need more human resources, administrative and financial support for the future.

본 논문은 지역축제와 무용공연활성화를 위하여 대한민국 대표축제인 안동국제탈춤페스티벌과 천안흥타령 춤축제를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 대한민국의 대표축제로 선정된 안동국제탈춤페스티벌과 최우수문화관광축제로 선정된 천안흥타령축제는 탈춤이든 춤이든 무용공연과 무용경연을 주된 테마로 설정하여 여러 해를 거듭하는 동안 성공적으로 이끌어 왔다. 이는 다른 어느 지역 축제보다도 무용의 발전과 활성화에 기여했다고 할 수 있다. 지역의 춤축제 속에서 춤공연과 춤경연의 참여는 무용의 발전을 이루었다. 본 논문에서는 춤을 테마로 하는 축제만을 선택했기 때문에 안동과 천안의 두 지역축제만을 다룬 점에 제한점이 있었다. 그리고 향후 지역축제 속에서 무용공연의 활성화를 위한 방안을 제시하였다. 지역축제 속에서 무용공연의 활성화를 위해서는 무용전문가들이 개최시기 이전에 기획이나 행정에 적극적으로 참여해야한다. 경연대회에서는 공정성과 관객과의 공감형성을 위해 최소한의 비율이나마 일반인의 평가가 반영되어도 좋을 것이다. 향후 무용인들만을 위한 공연보다는 일반 관람객이 호응할 수 있는 다함께 춤을 신명나게 출 수 있는 지역축제로 이끌어야 할 것이다. 그리고 축제 지역을 방문하는 관람객을 위한 교통편의를 제공해야한다. 이러한 축제를 통해서 무용에 대한 관심도를 높이고 관람자의 감상 수준을 끌어 올려서 순수예술무용공연을 위한 극장무용공연에도 많은 관객을 모을 수 있고 실제로 무용을 체험할 수 있고 공연 후에도 무용가와 관객이 서로 대화의 장을 갖는 것이 바람직하다고 사려된다. 그리고 천안흥타령축제에서 시작하여 이제는 춤축제라는 이름을 강조하여 천안흥타령춤축제로 명명하게된 것을 보아도 무용에 기여한 지역축제라고 할 수 있다. 끝으로 안동, 천안지역에서 춤이 주된 테마로 성공을 거두어 왔으므로 이를 바탕으로 향후에도 거듭 성공할 수 있도록 무용인의 힘을 모아야하며 이외의 지역축제에서도 춤을 널리 인식 시키고 춤축제로서 발전할 수 있도록 기관의 적극적인 인적, 행정적, 재정적 지원이 필요하다고 사려된다.
