This paper investigates the integration of virtues and the significance of moral education in Plato's Protagoras. Socrates and Protagoras in Protagoras agree that it is one of the virtues, but their views of understanding the relationship the virtues and parts of it are different from one another. Protagoras draw an analogy between the virtues and parts of it and face and parts of it, but Socrates analogizes them with gold and parts of it. Accordingly, Protagoras argues that the virtues is one, but it is different for each of the parts of the ability or function. Whereas, Socrates argues that the whole or part of the virtues is the same such as gold, and also the same function or ability. From these discussions, it is all integrated with their knowledge and wisdom that parts of the virtues such as wisdom, temperance, rightness, piety and courage. Based on this, Socrates's claim that "the virtues is knowledge(wisdom)" is proved. Study on the integrity of the virtues requires an inquiry on the justification problem of discussion itself, and the wisdom is knowing what level means. Based on these, it is confirmed that the virtues can be taught and it is embodied that how to teach the virtues. In addition, it will be seen the true appearance of virtues education and moral education of self-actualization.

본 논문은 플라톤의 『프로타고라스』에서 보이는 덕의 통합성과 도덕교육적 의미를 탐구한 것이다. 『프로타고라스』에 등장하는 소크라테스와 프로타고라스는 덕이 하나라는 것에는 동의하지만, 덕과 그것의 부분들과의 관계를 이해하는 견해는 서로 다르다. 프로타고라스는 덕과 그 부분들을 얼굴과 그것의 부분들에 비유하고, 소크라테스는 금과 그것의 부분에 비유한다. 이에 따라 프로타고라스가 주장하는 덕은 하나이지만 그것의 부분들 각각의 능력이나 기능은 다르다. 반면에 소크라테스가 주장하는 덕은 금과 같이 전체나 그 부분들도 같으며, 기능이나 능력에서도 같은 것이다. 이러한 논의로부터 덕의 부분들인 지혜, 절제, 올바름, 경건함, 용기 등이 모두 앎과 지혜로 통합된다. 이것으로 “덕은 앎(지혜)이다”라는 소크라테스의 주장은 검증된다. 덕의 통합성에 관한 연구는 논의 자체의 정당성 문제와 통합의 근거가 되는 지혜가 어떠한 수준에서의 앎을 의미하는지의 탐구를 요구한다. 이를 토대로 덕이 가르쳐질 수 있음을 확인하였고 그것의 방법을 구체화할 수 있으며, 진정한 덕교육과 자기실현의 도덕교육 모습을 제시할 수 있다.
