An integrative literature review was undertaken to identify the best interventions for family caregivers of home-based elderly with dementia in an effort to define directions for further research by reviewing related research studies. Analysis was done of 10 articles related to home-based elderly with dementia and family caregivers, published between 2001 and 2011. Findings indicate evidences the benefit of a variety of nursing interventions for family caregivers of home-based elderly with dementia. Future research is necessary to shift health management for family caregivers of elderly with dementia from an illness-based management plan to an integrative intervention to provide optimal care based on evidence. It is essential to involve counseling, cooperation, and communication with health care professionals. Additional studies are needed to further direct practice interventions in family caregivers of senile dementia
