The purpose of this study is to investigate the affects of volunteering, career maturity and citizenship of youth. The subjects of this study are 450 middle and high school student who live in Jeollanam-do province. The collected data was analyzed with SPSS WIN 18.0 using t-test, ANOVA, regression, cluster. The results are as follows: First, student‘s altruistic motives of volunteering are higher than selfish motives. Second, motivation and satisfying result of volunteering is the highest in the group that had the highest altruistic and selfish motives. Third, volunteering satisfaction has a deeply related affect on youth career maturity. And motivation and result of volunteering also related with vocational activities and activities of self-discovery. Fourth, the degree of affect of volunteering to citizenship shows 36% and that of career maturity to citizenship is 10%. The most affective factor on youth citizenship is altruistic motive. With these findings, it might be proposed that diverse programs engaged with career and employment in regular classes should be developed. The altruistic motives of volunteering should be emphasized for the promotion of citizenship.

본 연구는 중고등학교에 재학 중인 청소년의 자원봉사 동기 및 결과의 이타성과 이기성의 실태를 조사하고 이에 따라 자원봉사활동에 차이가 있는지 조사하였다. 또한 이러한 특성이 진로성숙도 및 시민의식과 어떤 관계에 있는지 살펴보고 시민의식에 미치는 영향력을 조사하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 자원봉사에 대한 이타적 동기가 이기적 동기보다 높은 것으로 나타났으나, 이타적 동기와 이기적 동기는 정적 상관관계를 갖고 있었고 이타성과 이기성이 높은 집단이 자원봉사에도 적극 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 진로성숙도는 자원봉사의 동기 및 결과의 이타성과 이기성 모두와 정적인 상관관계를 보였다. 셋째, 시민의식은 자원봉사 동기 및 결과의 이타성과 이기성, 진로성숙도와 정적인 상관관계를 보였다. 넷째, 시민의식은 자원봉사의 이타적 동기가 높고 이타적 결과 만족이 높으며 직업체험과 자기발견이 많을수록 높았다. 자원봉사 동기 및 결과의 이타성과 이기성은 둘 다 자원봉사활동, 진로성숙도와 정적인 상관관계를 보이고 있으나 시민의식은 이타적 동기 및 결과, 진로성숙도에 의해 영향을 받는 것으로 나타나므로 자원봉사의 이타성을 강조하면서 이기성을 만족시키는 직업교육과 연계된 교육프로그램을 개발하는 것이 요구된다.
