The purpose of this paper was to investigate the actual condition of alcohol drinking behavior of Christian elderly people, and analyze how serious the drinking problem is. In addition, the effect of drinking problem on depression is studied. The 2nd panel data of “Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging” were used, and 1, 161 persons, who were Christian and over 54 years of age in 2008, were selected. 20%(232 persons) of the Christian elderly people drank as usual and 18.5%(43 persons) of them had drinking problem. The regression analysis showed that the effect of drinking problem factor on the depression of Christian elderly people was statistically significant, and as the drinking problem was stronger, the depression score was higher. Based on the study results, practical suggestions to prevent the alcohol problem of Christian elderly people were drawn in the viewpoint of church social work.

본 연구는 기독고령자의 음주행태에 관한 실태를 파악하고 문제음주의 심각성 정도를 분석하였으며, 또한 문제음주가 우울증에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 2008년도에 조사된 제2차『고령화연구패널』데이터를 사용하였으며, 기독교 종교를 갖는 55세 이상 고령자 1,161명을 분석대상으로 하였다. 기독고령자의 20%(232명)가 평소 음주를 하고 있었으며, 이들 중 18.5%(43명)가 문제음주를 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 회귀분석 결과 문제음주 요인이 기독고령자의 우울증에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 문제음주 정도가 심할수록 우울정도가 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구 결과를 토대로 증가하고 있는 기독교인 음주자에 대한 교회의 인식 제고 필요성 및 기독고령자의 문제음주를 예방할 수 있는 교회사회사업적 실천 방안을 제언하였다.
