We are living in the 21stcentury, era of post-modernism. As time changes from generation to generation, the paradigm that shaped the generation affects the form of art as well. As such, dance art evolves through numerous efforts in different forms within the paradigm of post-modernism. The following paper examines the concepts of post-modernism and its historical back grounds, and takes a look at post-modern dance characteristics to draw out the characteristics of contemporary dance. The following paper attempts to understand post-modernism and the unique characteristic of dance arts from post-modern dance to contemporary dances by dividing it into five parts. This very examination could be the very foundation for the direction for contemporary dance for the new generation.

우리는 21세기 포스트모더니즘 시대에 살아가고 있다. 시대를 반영하는 사조의 형태는 역사적 흐름에 따라 예술 의 형태도 변화시킨다. 무용 또한 포스트모더니즘 사조 안에서도 다양한 형태의 실험 정신을 바탕으로 변화 발전 해 나가고 있다. 본 논고에서는 포스트모더니즘의 개념과 발생배경을 연구하고 이에 따른 포스트모던댄스의 경향 들을 살펴 이후 컨템포러리 댄스의 특징적 경향을 도출해내고자 한다. 본 논고에서는 포스트모더니즘의 이해와 포스트모던댄스에서 컨템포러리 댄스까지 무용예술의 특징적 경향을 5가지로 나누어 분석하여 이 연구가 컨템포 러리 댄스가 나아가야 할 방향의 기초자료로 사용 될 것이라 사료된다.
