There is a variety of means to increase brand prominence and value of tourist attractions. However, a recent noticeable means is the new 7 wonders of nature. In this study, consideration is given to the meaning and expected outcome and task of the selection of the 7 wonders of nature by inquiring the selection process and the role of the local government of Jeju island, which is a sole region, in Northeast Asia, to be confirmed as one of the new 7 wonders of nature. The inquiry shows that the selection of Jeju island as one of the 7 wonders of nature is being perceived as a national as well as local agenda in Korea and that there was a nationwide support. Furthermore, this study shows the meaning and significance of being selected as the new 7 wonders of nature by inquiring attitudes of participating countries in the new 7 wonders of nature competition, changes in the number of tourists during the competition period, and results from the analysis of economic effects gained by its inclusion in the new wonders of nature.

本研究では、観光地において知名度やブランド価値を高めるための様々な手段がある中、世界7 大自然景観に注目し、東北アジアで有一世界7 大自然景観に選ばれた済州道を取り上げ、選ばれるまでのプロセスや済州道の取り組みについて概観した上で、意義や期待される成果・課題について考察した。結果、韓国では済州道が世界７大自然景観に選ばれるのは、済州道だけの懸案ではなく、国家アジェンダとして認識し、全国的な取り組みが行われたことが資料により明らかになった。また、イベントに参加した各国の参加態度や参加期間中の観光客数の変化、また選ばれることによる経済効果分析の結果などから、世界7 大自然景観に選定されることの意義や重要性が明らかになった。
