This research will study the state of intangible cultural heritage of Koreans of the Commonwealth of Independent States (USSR regions in the past) and the perception of Koreans of CIS toward intangible cultural heritage. In the process, this research will also examine the state of settlememt of Koreans in CIS and the handling of generic cultural heritage, and will secondarily aim to give a better understanding of general information of cultural heritage of Koreans in CIS. During the period of 150 years of settlement, Korean diaspora of CIS has produced Korean cultural heritage (including tangible and intangible cultural heritage) in many forms such as writing, photography, and video images. These are effectively and valuably used in Korean diaspora research today. What is important to notice today is that despite their lives of constant migration and travel, Korean diaspora has been trasmitting cultural heritage, in other words intangible cultural heritage, unique to Korean culture in no small measure. Researches have been intermittently carried out in Korea regarding cultural heritage of Koreans in CIS by certain researchers or the National Folklore Museum. However, these researches were limited to fables and folk songs or were carried out in the perspective of folk lore, not 'cultural heritage'. The writer carried out a state research and cataloguing task on Korean cultural heritage in 3 Central Asian countries (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan) and Russia for total of 1 month in the period of 2012.07.11-31 (21 days) and 2012.08.06-14 (9 days). State research was carried out based on the seven cultural heritages designated by Unesco. Following this standard, tangible cultural heritages were included in the research along with intangible cultural heritages as well. Through field research, the writer examined the transmission state and the perception of Koreans toward intangible cultural heritage. It was confirmed that despite long isolation, there are common factors shared by Korean cultures in Central Asia-Russia-Korean Peninsula regions being passed down, but there are also differences. In other words, the writer was able to confirm that in Central Asian and Russian regions, within intangible and tangible cultural heritage of Koreans (including Sahalin Koreans), similiarities and differences crossing countires and borders, or changed forms of new cultural heritage are inherent.

연구는 독립국가연합(과거 소련지역) 고려인의 무형문화유산에 대한 실태를 조사하고, 무형문화유산에 대한 고려인의 인식을 살펴보는데 있다. 또한 그 과정에서 고려인의 독립국가연합 정주 상황과 포괄적인 역사문화자원의 소장상황에 대해 살펴보고, 고려인의 역사문화자원에 대한 전반적인 이해를 돕는데 부차적인 목적을 두고 있다. 150년의 정주 기간 동안에 독립국가연합의 고려인 디아스포라는 문헌, 사진, 영상 등 다양한 형태의 고려인 역사문화자원들(유무형의 전통문화유산이 포함된)을 생성해 왔다. 이는 오늘날 고려인 디아스포라 연구에 더할나위없이 귀하고 값지게 활용되고 있다. 주목할 점은 이주와 유랑으로 점철된 격동의 삶 속에서도 고려인 디아스포라는 적지 않게 한민족의 고유한 전통문화유산, 즉 무형문화유산들을 계승해 오고 있다는 것이다. 그간 국내에서는 고려인의 전통문화유산과 관련하여 일부 연구자나 국립민속박물관에 의해 간헐적으로 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 하지만 이는 설화와 민요 등에 제한되었거나 무엇보다 ‘무형문화유산’이 아닌 민속학적인 관점에서 수행되어 온 바가 크다. 필자는 2012.07.11-31일(21일)과 2012.08.06-14일(9일) 기간 동안 총 1개월에 걸쳐 중앙아시아 3개국(우즈베키스탄, 카자흐스탄, 키르기즈스탄)과 러시아에서 고려인 무형문화유산에 대한 실태조사 및 목록작업을 수행했다. 실태조사는 유네스코 지정 무형문화유산 7개 범주를 기준으로 수행했다. 이 기준에 따라 고려인의 무형의 문화유산들 뿐만 아니라, 유형의 문화유산들도 포괄적으로 연구대상에 포함되었다. 필자는 현지조사를 통해 독립국가연합 고려인 무형문화유산의 전승실태와 무형문화유산에 대한 고려인의 인식을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 한반도 본토와의 오랜 결별 속에서도 고려인의 무형문화유산 내에는 중앙아시아-러시아-한반도 지역의 한민족이 공유하고 있는 공통의 요소들이 여전히 계승되는 한편, 또한 차이도 존재하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, 중앙아시아와 러시아 지역 한민족 고려인(사할린 한인 포함)의 (유)무형문화유산 내에는 국가와 지역을 뛰어 넘는 공통점과 차이점, 혹은 변형된 형태의 새로운 형태의 문화유산 요소들이 내재되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
