The Around 3,000 career teachers have been set in middle and high schools to promote students' career development since 2011 in Korea. The purpose of this study was germane to students and parents in high schools. Within that framework, this study aimed to identify their perceptions regarding the career teachers, to identify the degree of their satisfaction to the services provided by the career teachers, and to present a plan of developing appropriate roles and tasks of career teachers. The population for this study was the students and the parents at the high schools with career teachers. A stratified cluster sampling method was used for the sampling. The survey instrument was distributed to 2,560 pairs of students and parents in 32 high schools. The number of the students and the parents who returned the instrument was 2,165 and 1,876 each. The major findings of this study revealed the followings: 1) Students and parents were satisfied with the counseling provided by the career teachers; 2) Students wanted the career teachers to help identifying aptitudes as well as exploring the informations of college majors; 3) Students and parents thought the career teachers valuable; and 4) Parents prioritized the career counseling and guidance the most important task to which the career teachers should pay attention. Based on the findings above, the career teachers should provide students and parents with more chances of counseling and help students actualize their needs. Various conditions are necessary to be prepared for the career teachers to play their primary roles and, consequently, for effective career education to be delivered in high schools.

이 연구의 목적은 진로진학상담교사가 학교에 배치된 이후 학교 진로교육의 수혜자 인 학생 및 학부모가 진로진학상담교사에 대해서 어떠한 인식을 가지고 있고, 이들에 게 바라고 있는 것이 무엇인지를 확인하여 향후 진로진학상담교사의 역할 및 업무를 효과적으로 설정하기 위한 대안을 제시하는데 있다. 이를 위해 무선표집을 통해 각 시 도별로 2개 고등학교씩 총 32개교를 선정하였고, 각 학교별 2개 학급(학생 40명, 학부 모 40명)의 학생 및 학부모 각각 2,560명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 학생 2,165 명, 학부모 1,876명의 설문지를 회수하였다. 설문조사 결과 학생은 진로진학상담교사와 진학 및 학업과 관련하여 상담을 하고 이러한 상담에 대해서는 대체적으로 만족했으 며, 학과 및 전공정보 뿐만 아니라 나의 적성발견에 대해서 도움을 받고 싶어했다. 또 한, 진로진학상담교사를 필요한 존재로 인식하고 있었고, 역할 및 활동에 대해서도 대 체로 만족하고 있었다. 학부모는 진로진학상담교사가 진로진학 관련 상담 및 지도 업 무에 가장 충실하기를 원했고, 실제로 상담을 경험한 학부모는 적었지만 대체로 상담 에 대한 만족도는 높았다. 학부모 또한 학생과 마찬가지로 진로진학상담교사의 필요성 에 공감하고 있었다. 결국 진로진학상담교사는 학생 및 학부모에 대한 상담기회를 확 대하고, 학생과 학부모가 요구하는 바를 구체적으로 실현시켜줄 필요가 있다. 또한, 진 로진학상담교사가 본연의 역할을 충실하게 수행하고 효과적인 진로교육이 학교에서 이 루어질 수 있도록 제반 여건을 마련해 줄 필요가 있다.
