This study aims to analyze the impact of regional financial shock on the real sector of Circum-East Sea region, which is relatively weak economic conditions to other regions. Based on Neoclassical growth theory, we apply the Luintel and Khan(1999) and Rousseau and Vuthipadadorn(2005) methodology to examine the relationship between the regional economic growth and regional finance by using vector error correction model. The Empirical result is as follows: regional economic growth increases by 1.07 percent after four quarters and by 0.64% in the long run in response to a one-unit shock to the regional financial development. This finding supports the supply-leading hypothesis in the role of finance. Thus, to activate the economic growth of Circum-East Sea region, preemptive financial strategy is strongly required.

본 연구는 실물과 금융부문이 다른 지역에 비해 상대적으로 취약한 환동해권의 지역금융 충격이 실물부문에 미치는 효과를 분석한 연구이다. 신고전학파 성장이론에 기반하여 Luintel and Khan(1999) 및 Rousseau and Vuthipadadorn(2005) 등이 제시한 다변수 VAR모형(VECM)을 확장하여 지역 경제성장과 금융의 관계에 대한 실증분석을 수행하였다. 이는 금융의 공급선도 가설(supply-leading hypothesis)을 강력하게 지지하는 결과로서 환동해권 지역의 성장을 위해서는 무엇보다 선제적 금융부문의 대응 전략을 마련함이 필요함을 강하게 시사한다.
