The purpose of this study is to provide a basis for developing situationally-appropriate programs for faculty development. To do so, a survey was conducted among 190 professors at S university via an online system. The survey consists of three major components: the perceived awareness and future needs of the program, suggestions for enhancing participation level, as well as the perceived awareness and the need for faculty development itself. The results are shown as follows: First, although most professors agree on the need for a faculty development program, the actual participation levels are relatively low. Second, the professors are highly interested in faculty development programs that encourage student-teacher interactions and students' participation, as well as programs that are tailored to the needs of each department and field of study. Third, the most common reason for the absence of participation in programs is that the program hours tend to conflict with the professors' schedules. The professors also suggested that program diversification and quality enhancement may be needed in order to encourage participation. Finally, on a university level, many faculty members have requested for teaching assistants to help with lecture development, and on a center-level, opportunities to share ideas with fellow faculty members were requested. These results varied significantly according to the domain of lectures and the length of one's service. Based on these results, it can be suggested that the center for teaching and learning should offer flexible programs for individuals or small groups. Also, various faculty characteristics such as lecture domain and the length of one's service need to be taken into consideration during program development. Finally, the center should make an effort to establish a faculty community for sharing and learning different teaching methods.

이 연구의 목적은 대학 교원들의 실정에 맞는 교수개발 프로그램을 개발하기 위한 기초 자료를 수집하는 것이다. 이를 위해 S대학교 교수 190명을 대상으로 교수개발 프로그램에 대한 인식 및 요구, 교수개발 프로그램 참여에 대한 의견, 교수개발에 대한 인식 및 요구를 조사하였다. 연구결과를 정리하면, 첫째, 교수들은 교수개발 프로그램의 필요성에는 다소간 동의했으나, 실제 프로그램에 참여한 비율은 다소 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 교수들은 학생과의 상호작용 및 학생참여를 증진시키는 교수방법 및 학문·학과 특성을 반영한 교수개발 프로그램에 관심이 많은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 교수개발 프로그램에 잘 참여하지 않는 이유로 프로그램 시간이 개인 일정과 맞지 않기 때문이라는 응답이 많았고, 프로그램 참여를 촉진시키기 위해서는 교육프로그램의 다양화 및 질 개선이 이루어져야 한다고 보았다. 마지막으로, 수업개선을 위해서 대학 차원에서는 강의개발을 위한 TA를 지원해 달라는 응답이 많았고, 센터 차원에서는 동료교수들과의 아이디어를 교환할 수 있는 기회를 마련해 달라는 응답이 많았다. 이상의 연구결과는 교원의 강의영역이나 재직연수에 따라 다소 다르게 나타났다. 이상을 토대로, 이 연구에서는 교수학습센터가 비교적 일정 조정이 용이한 개인이나 소규모 인원 대상의 교육개발 프로그램을 시행할 필요가 있으며, 강의영역이나 재직연수와 같은 교원 특성을 고려하여 교수개발 프로그램 및 관련 제반 여건을 계획할 필요가 있으며, 교수들 간 교수법 학습 커뮤니티를 구축하는 데에 더 많은 노력을 기울일 필요가 있다는 점을 제언하였다.
