- This study aims to examine how the terminology introduced to the Korean public during the Korean financial crisis in 1997-1998 has been translated and established, now that more than 10 years have passed since then. Many new terms were introduced to the general public when Korea underwent financial crisis and received bailout funds from the IMF. These terms had already been familiar to the personnel in the field then, but not to the general public. Accordingly, many new terms appeared in the Korean vernacular newspapers for the first time during Korea's financial crisis. This study first classified the types of terminology translations and then discussed factors that may have influenced them. Translation and/or establishment of these terms were also observed from the perspective of standardization.
