- We have tried to analyze Koreans' listening errors and then explain why they make such errors on the basis of phonetic and phonological rules. The purpose of this paper is to show what systematic listening errors Koreans commit and to indicate what listening strategies should be used to teach English listening efficiently. To improve English listening efficiently, students need to be aware how important English stress and phonetic rules are. Furthermore, the strength of all sounds may not be fixed but flexible depending on what circumstances they are positioned under and the extent of sound contraction and reduction may be different according to the speech speed and individuals. Finally, the importance of English culture, vocabulary and expressions should be also emphasized.
