- The purpose of this paper is to investigate linguistic items better decoded and comprehended due to visual support. Six ninth grade Korean students processed the same listening material first in the audio mode and later in the audiovisual mode. Linguistic items additionally decoded and comprehended in the audiovisual mode were investigated. They included not only concrete nouns and verbs, often mentioned in relevant studies, but also adjectives and adverbs. Grammatical items indicating numbers, definiteness, personal and demonstrative adjectives and pronouns, and discourse markers were also found. Implications on strategy-based instruction are discussed.
