- There have been contrasting opinions about the phonetic value of the vowel [ㆍ] in Jeju Dialect; [.] vs. [.]. This research has been conducted to reveal its precise phonetic value as a preliminary study and acoustically analysed the formant frequencies of the vowel and its related back vowels in Jeju Dialect. It concludes that the vowel [ㆍ] in Jeju Dialect has the phonetic value of a mid rounded back vowel and should be marked as [.] rather than [.] in the IPA system. But this conclusion on the basis of this preliminary research needs to be corroborated through further full-scale research in the furture.
