- The present paper can be characterized as preliminary in its nature looking into the syntactic as well as pragmatic functions of yey in the Jeju dialect. Recognizing the fact that there is no systematic study on UFP of the dialect, we must first look at the use of yey in terms of structural distribution and then its syntactic roles for the interrogative and an interrogative tag However, these explanations are not enough to provide a better insight into the linguistic behavior of the particle targeted. To complement this shortcoming, we turn our attention to the pragmatic force that has much to do with the use of yey in actual usage.
